Uh, what? He is friends with both Jay Z and Beyonce. He has done a bunch of work with Jay Z over the years and you could argue West wouldn’t have made it nearly as big without his early work producing tracks on Jay Z albums. Why does it have to be a crush rather than just advocating for his friend(s) and business partners? Granted, he is advocating in a uniquely Kanye West kind of way, but I don’t think it’s because of a crush.
I thought the moment was hilarious and when the Grammys showed Kanye right after he was laughing it up with Kim. So I think the whole “I thought about my wife and kid” was him retconning it. He was playing, making a joke, and then afterwards when interviewed went into angry-Kanye mode.
Though it seems that last evening it was sharing equal billing with photos of him hugging Taylor Swift and taking a pic together.
I still love Kanye though. The man’s music is fantastic.
Would be funny as hell if he did it a third time, to the wrong person, who decided to jack his jaw and leave him laying.
Or a woman who would kick him in the balls.
Yeah, that’s what I assumed last night when I saw the clip on Facebook. I thought he was obviously just making a joke. Now seeing “true” indignation today, I don’t know what to believe.
That it was staged.
That’s quite likely. Whatever it was, it didn’t seem like a “real” serious moment where he suddenly had a change of heart.
Kanye has 21 Grammy awards. Beyonce has 20. Do either of them need any more? If West so desperately wants Beyonce to have another one, he really should consider giving her one of his and shutting up.
The idea of Beck giving his Grammy to Beyonce makes me think of Homer’s Oscar.
I’m going to sound an awful lot like a get-off-my-lawn old codgerette with this comment, but what in the name of heck has happened to good manners? I was raised to speak my mind and taught that everyone has a right to be heard, but I was also taught that there is a time and a place for doing so.
Far too many folks these days either don’t get that or blow it off. This idiot is the poster child for bad manners. Were it up to me (and of course it isn’t), I’d disinvite him from all future award events. Since he clearly can’t or won’t behave himself, he needs to be watching the show from home where he can rail against every single award winner all he wants.
My sympathies to Beyonce, who to the best of my knowledge has neither asked for nor condoned this brattish behavior on her behalf.
Time and place, Kanye, time and place.
Yeah. It seems like the simpler approach is to just tell Kanye he’s not welcome at the Grammys next year, and will be escorted off the premesis if he shows up.
Why tell one of the few people who made the Grammys interesting that he isn’t welcome? That seems counterproductive.
Could they let him attend the show but then duct tape him to his chair or something?
He could establish his own, competing awards show, The Kanyes, and give awards to the artists he felt were deserving.
So him and Beyoncé. Maybe Kim will let him use the living room.
Yea, this basically seems to boil down to “Entertainer at Entertainment show attempts to be entertaining”. I’m not sure I see what the problem is, other than maybe that he’s kinda repeating old material.
Regardless of when you were raised, I can pretty much guarantee it was a time period that also featured celebrities engaging in ill-mannered stunts for attention.
Just another episode of Kanye doing anything for attention. Ugh, I have no use for the guy.
I’m more annoyed at West’s poor use of the English language. That, and all the people asking who Beck is. Awards shows are stupid and pointless anyway, but it’s the principle of the thing. At least Beck writes songs and plays instruments!
Why is “playing instruments” some sort of marker for… well anything?
Are folks still stuck in the idea that electronic music isn’t music?
I don’t watch Kanye, and am unfamiliar with his oeuvre, but I saw a clip on The Soup once where Kanye was shown reacting to something with a warm and human smile of delight, then you could practically see the the switch close in his head as he thought, “Holy fuck, I’m Kanye West, shut it down!” and the characteristic scowl returned. It’s gotta be sad being unable to show your true emotions, but that’s show biz for ya. I’m sure he was joking at first, and then realized that Kanye don’t joke.
