Keep a happy thought in the MMP!

OK, I was a little too optimistic about the sidewalks. Holy Mother, that was tough walking! It took me four times as long as usual to get to the store. I reckon it’ll take until Friday for them to be clear enough to walk. On a positive note, it was a good workout!

The people downstairs are having an argument. It’s loud enough that I could tell you what it was about if I spoke the language. I’m hoping they give each other the silent treatment.

I was wrong about Valentine chocolates. They were all half-off at the store. I didn’t get any, though. See’s spoiled me for all supermarket-level chocolates.

Figures. With surgical costs going up, though, you’d think they’d rather spend less money now than more money later. Also, people who can’t see as well are more likely to get hurt. But then, health insurance companies tend to be penny-wise, pound foolish.

Boo, if I had tons of money, I’d send you, roomie, and roomie’s kid to a nice hotel for the rest of the week. You’d get the penthouse suite and the others some other nice suite. Cats allowed, of course. Every evening at 5 o’clock, a Wisconsin Old Fashioned would be delivered to your door, along with appropriate snacks.

I had an appointment lined up just a few miles from here, but they don’t have insurance and they were worried that the designation of “emergency” would mean premium price, so they had second thoughts and asked me to cancel. So I did and they called their regular dentist back home. Whatever…

On the other hand, if you buy in Ocala, that’s where my inlaws live, so we might finally meet. Speaking of which, butters, where in Ocala are you looking? My inlaws live in Marion Landing, which is a nice enough community, if one is inclined to live in a retirement community. They have a pool and a bowling alley even!

We’re back from dinner at Daughter’s. It was good, but definitely way more caloric than I’m accustomed to. I need to walk an extra mile tomorrow. It’s drizzly and foggy-ish out tonight and FCD scared the crap out of me driving home. He nearly turned into an oncoming traffic lane at one intersection, then actually did drive down the wrong way at another intersection where, fortunately, there was no oncoming traffic, tho if there had been, he’d have seen where our lane was. Anyway, in for the night now.

Who knows what excitement awaits tomorrow…

Evening all. Usually I grab a Fast food Cheeseburger of some type Moanday night, but when I went out about 6pm, everything was closed, due to it being about 28F and rainy. If anything good came from the Tragedy down in Texas last week, apparently folks closed up shop early since the temperature is due to keep falling all night and all the roads are damp to wet. So I’m eating a mess of Noodles-n-Gravy and will patronize Mickey D/s later this week.

Herald, you’re right and I’ve added him to the list. And Butters, Mea Culpa, I only looked 2 weeks back and my feeble memory just plain forgot. Good luck and check your math twice before retiring. I did fine going out about 14 months before I had planned to, but did a lot of checking first.

Pilot, surprised the airline can’t grant a waiver, I doubt many planes are flying at 100% capacity these days…

Wizard Mouse, I suspect with things shut down tonight that school and most other activities will be closed tomorrow here in N. Ali-bama. You and red take care up there.

nellie, I have to confess; I’ve never watched “Babe”. But that one line has been out in the world for years and I’ve always liked James Cromwell in most any role.

OK, noodles have been consumed so need to put the dishes to soaking and clean up after myself. All y’all have a good night and I’ll catch up with you 2sday.

Welcome to any and all new MMPers. “Some of us, some of us. We accept them, some of us.” (grin)

Low 50s (F) and intermittent rain here, and the QA-induced mutiny is building. It seem all the most experienced people are in “take this job and shove it” mode, so they’re going to lose a lot of good employees soon, it would appear.

I participated in a “calibration meeting” today. Half a dozen apparently randomly selected people gathered in the training room with grandboss, we all listened to a call (by someone not participating in this meeting) and went down the call score sheet, with grandboss explaining as we went. I did feel bad for the person whose call we listened to. There are something like a dozen ways to autofail a call (any ONE of these items is autofail). The agent in question hit FIVE. I’m pretty sure grandboss had not listened to this call in advance, judging by her reactions. Pretty much immediately after this meeting, I took note of her swooping down on said agent’s immediate sup.

Babe is a fun, relaxing escapist movie. Treat your self to it some day.

Goodnight all. Heading to bed soon-going over to do all day childcare with Hattie tomorrow. Her preschool is closed because of our record cold and her WFH parents need the coverage. I am ecstatic to be asked. Let the good times roll!

We’re in record breaking cold and having rolling electric blackouts to meet the power demands. Lord preserve me if I lose my electric space heaters! It is only a half hour at a time supposedly. Cross your fingers for me. The public schools are closed, the university is closed…if Covid doesn’t kill me I guess the weather will try to!

Canes won. There are thunderstorms to the east of here. :grimacing: Work went OK

Oh, he’s gonna get nailed.

{{{{Shoe}}}}
{{{{Quietly}}}}
{{{{Butters}}}} (I remembered you nickname!) And like MetalMouse said, do some math, and if you can swing it, make it so!

Seconded. It’s a wonderful movie and was nominated for Best Picture.Roger Ebert said the characters in it were more articulate than the characters in most R-rated movies, and that adults would like it even better than kids. My now-ex loathed any and all children’s movies, but even he liked Babe. Give it a watch. You won’t be sorry.

Boo, have a wonderful time with Harriet.

I decided to let the pellet stove burn out overnight. It’s supposed to hit low 50s today and I’ll take advantage of the relative warmth to clean out the ash and generally un-gunk the stove. It’s still a tad warm to the touch, but by the time I’m ready to attack it, I shouldn’t have any issues with residual heat.

Other big plan is laundry - only 2 loads, tho, so not that big a plan. I’ll toss stuff into the machine, then tread the mill while it sloshes about. I also need to run to the credit union, and I my swing by Food Lion for salad makin’s for supper. We all ate too heavily last night, so salad, and maybe I’ll bake some bread.

Yep, fun times ahead! Happy Tuesday!!

Good Mornin Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 39 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 46 and maybe N.O.S. this afternoon. Or not. Don’t know what the day has in store. Both of us need haircuts, so maybe that. 'Tis Shrove Tuesday aka Mardi Gras, so we shall feast upon pancakes and bacon for sup. If times were normal, I would be over to the church house this afternoon to assist in the preparation of pancakes, snausages, and bacon for the annual fundraiser for our Deacon’s fund. However, not so this year. Anywho, we shall see what the day brings.

Butters Dawson, Jawja as in the town of or Dawson County (Dawsonville). Jawja likes to mix and match city and county names a lot. Dawson, Jawja is twentyish sump’n miles north of da cave.

Boo sorry you’re still dealin’ with plumbin’/pipe woes, but yay for a day with Harriet!

Bumba good news about your heart not bein’ unruly!

Everybody else, I read all but have the retention of a gnat, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed,

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday/Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s grey out there today and looks like we are in for rain. The weather app says “Of all the normal, mild, cloudy days, this is fucking one of them” and promises me 10C/50F all day, mostly cloudy. It was definitely sunny earlier so something’s lying to me…

nellie glad you managed to stay upright on your march to the store and back! To answer your question, both eyes are fine now, but I still have some of the drops left in case anything should dare to become sore again.

BBBoo sorry to hear about the ongoing heating/freezing woes, but yay for a day with Harriet! I hope you can come home to a bit more warmth, or at least bring extra blankets back.

Pulley forgot to add my congrats on your daughter’s PhD. How awesome for her!

I had a frustrating morning trying to do a training session online with our two newbies, every time we tried screensharing one of us got kicked out of Teams. We managed eventually, by other means but it’s definitely far more of a faff than doing the same training in the office.

Also had some sad news that one of my minions lost his father yesterday. It’s tough anyway, but the current situation just makes it so much worse. He’s going to be off for a while dealing with everything so we can do little but wish him well, and keep on top of his work.

On the happy side, I’ve got nothing else in my calendar for the rest of the day, and we’re going grocery shopping tonight. It’s almost sad that those are the only things I’m happy about today

Happy Tuesday!

Yesterday was unfortunately not as productive as anticipated. Woke up with the usual aches and pains, but by noon it had settled into a new lower back pain that eventually went down my right leg. I feel like Marvin the Paranoid Android with an incredible pain down my right side. Hard to get my socks on.

Getting old sucks.

Time for stretching.

Stay safe, everyone.

Back to work this morning. The younger two are upstairs watching Young Justice. I think this afternoon, I’ll put on the thermals and woolies and waterproof work boots and try to walk to the dollar store to pick up some more milk. We had grown so used to false alarms, we did not stock up for this week.

I’ve got the flat sled with a rope, so I reckon I can trek down there (It’s only a mile away.) and back, looking like Scott of the Antarctic. I hope I have better luck.

Morning all. Woke up to our One Day of Winter here in N. Ali-bama. Temperature is 12F and there is a ‘powdered sugar’ covering of snow. Streets look frozen, too, so I expect schools and most everything will be shut down today. Tomorrow is promising rain and 42F, so that will bring us back to normal conditions here. Water and electric seem to be fine for now. Hibernation is indicated.

BBBoo, enjoy the day with the little one, a half-hour outage shouldn’t be bad, but that’s if you trust the electric company to get it right…

OK ladies, I’ll put it (Babe) on my schedule.

Nettie, I have another idea for a new Mumper name. You’re working a regular shift, it’s a fairly dysfunctional place, and it’s frustrating for you, much like Dolly Parton in the movie 9-to-5, so how about Dolly as your MMP name?

Boo fae, glad the system cooperated enough to do the training and sad for your minions loss. Take care.

VanGo, I’ll hit my 68th birthday this year and while I’m pretty well preserved, my body does let me know whenever I do something awkward. Take care, and get it checked out if it persists.

Wizard, good luck on the milk trek. Be safe.

OK, need to forage for some sustenance. All y’all stay warm this 2sday.

FIL has had 2 more episodes within the last 30 minutes - he freezes up and seems to lose all awareness. I really think they’re mini-strokes, but he refuses to acknowledge anything is wrong and refuses to seek a medical opinion. FCD was absent for these 2, but I’ll talk to him as soon as he gets back. I have this fear in the back of my mind that he’s going to die as we’re driving back to FL… :worried:

Meanwhile, the pellet stove is very clean, the first load is in the washer, and the kitchen is more or less tidy. I’ve also got some eggs boiling for deviled eggs - Higgs scored the one I dropped on the floor (dammit.)

Once FCD comes back and I get the next load in the wash, I’ll run to the credit union and to Food Lion for some salad makin’s. And when all the laundry is done, I’ll put together a loaf of Italian herb bread and finish making the deviled eggs.

Not my favorite day this week.

Woooooooo - MetalMouse has a Babe on his schedule!!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :kissing_heart:

FCD just called - he got a call from a customer - he may have a little project to work on so he’s going to find out more, unless I call him home for his dad. Good times…

That’s worrisome about your FIL Moooooom.

Like metal mouse, it’s a balmy 12F here in middle Tennessee. Brrrrrrrr! We have about an inch of snow (and still coming down) on top of the ice. They’ve closed the plant again today. My heater is struggling to keep up. I have the temp set at 70F, but it’s closer to 65F inside. I’m in jammies, socks, slippers, a sweatshirt and a fleece pullover with an afghan and a small dog on my lap. I’m looking forward to the warm up slated for this weekend.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Next week, it’s slated to be in the high fifties and rainy (of course). Most of this crap should wash away…

Coffee is being had and work is being done and even though it snowed nearly 8 inches last night the streets don’t look so terrible. Well, not entirely terrible. Plus, it’s warmed up to 1 degrees F. Apparently it’s supposed to be 50F by the weekend.

Icicles are falling off my window, which tells me that my windows probably aren’t made for harsh winters, but it sure is pretty and sparkly outside. Assuming my teenager wakes up before dinnertime, the kids will be playing outside like lunatics. Overlygirl is trying to talk me into driving her to a friend’s house, but it ain’t gonna happen.

I’m tired of cooking. Maybe I’ll make a quiche - that’s easy, I don’t have to babysit it and it’ll use up my eggs & remaining half of frozen spinach. Yeah, I think I’ll do that.

I completely forgot that today is Mardi Gras. I always make chicken/shrimp/andouille jambalaya, and cast-iron skilled baked cornbread. Alas.

Well, since I’m not Catholic, maybe I can make shrimp & grits tomorrow.

Last load of laundry is in the dryer. I’ve been to the credit union and picked up some salad stuff. The eggs are peeled and awaiting deviling. All the ingredients are staged for the Italian herb bread, so I think I need to start it now. Chorage is almost done now.
