I don’t hate Asians, but I really wish I did, just so I could stand a chance of pissing this guy off someday, not that he’d need my help, I suppose.
We have a resident “Asian with a chip-on-his-shoulder-against-black-people” here, but I’ll still never get them. They act like black people are taking the “minority attention” away from them, or something. Blacks are a small enough minority to avoid, and Asians seem to do so well enough, that I’ll never get what their deal is.
Oh and then they always vaguely refer to constant racial harassment from black people, without going into detail. I know it’s BS since as a black person who knows plenty of other blacks I know we don’t go around harassing Asians. If they went into detail, they’d probably reveal important details like these “harassers” are either children - from their own youth (and in case you didn’t know, we’re all harassed by other kids when we’re young), or highly uneducated members of the underclass, including bums. It’d be like me complaining that Asians in general are always disrespectful of my personal space and touching me without permission, all without mentioning that most of Asians I met were in gay bathhouses.
Interesting. You know racial harrassment of Asians is “bullshit” because you know plenty of blacks who don’t harrass Asians?
I don’t know any whites who harrass black people either, but I suspect if I made a similar claim about white-on-black racism it’d fly like a lead balloon.
In response to “whites hate black people” in general? In response to a claim that whites normally harass blacks? Keep in mind that Eng stated this as the rule among blacks (and I’ve heard such a sentiment before).
Not really sure what you’re saying here. I wasn’t referring to Eng (whose column I haven’t read, and don’t particularly care to) but to your comments, where you seem to be suggesting that Asians you know who claim to have been harrassed by blacks are lying or exaggerating, because you personally know a lot of blacks who wouldn’t do that.
I don’t quite understand the logic.
(Not sure I quite follow the “blacks are easy enough to avoid and Asians do so well” thing either, but leaving that aside…)
Well, I was responding to Eng and similar sentiments that paint blacks as nearly uniformly hostile towards Asians. That’s easy to disprove by knowing enough black people. IOW, If I complained that I hate whites because they’re always slapping black people on the butt - would you just shrug and guess that that must be my experience, or would you be suspicious, since you know plenty of whites and slapping blacks on the butt has never come up among them?
I meant Asians avoid blacks well enough, which is easy anyway since blacks are a minority.
Sorry, I misread the “do so well” part as a comment on their level of achievement (financial or academic, or something).
Points taken. I would say that the ease with which one can avoid contact with black people (not a strategy I particularly recommend, of course) depends largely on where you live, their overall minority status notwithstanding. In most of Metro Atlanta, for example, you’d be pretty much housebound.
Or in my case, locked in a particular room to avoid running into my wife. Probably woudn’t be the healthiest idea for the marriage, though.
