We should ban Japan. It’s the only way to be safe.
Sadly true.
and firecrackers!
I can get behind this.
As an apparent tribute, South Park aired their “bury your heads in the sand” episode last night.
I’m wondering if there will be some mass hysteria about this like parents wanting to ban Naruto and censor other shows. I think it would be BS if they did, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
I am always amazed when someone does something they saw on TV that is ridicul;ously dangerous and gets hurt. The kid was only 10, but even at 10 I knew better than to have my head buried in sand. They probably will ban sandboxes as someone suggested. I’m actually amazed that kids still play in them. I thought they were all inside playing WoW.
My biggest fear as a parent is that my children will be even half as stupid as I was. Yet I still let them out of the house, swim in the ocean, ride their bikes …
A sad event but not a sign of some great danger of anime, of sandboxes, or of exceptional stupidity or bad intent. Just a sad event.
and I say we take off and nuke 'em from orbit.
begbert2 - That’s actually a Japan term (any publisher with “Young” in the title is geared toward this demographic). And I’m not sure if Hawaii is as liberal as you think (we shot down same-sex marriage cold and aren’t giving the sovereignty issue the time of day), but I’ve never noticed any kind of flap over manga. In fact, Borders had the earliest English-language publication of Fist of the North Star…with no warnings of any kind…and there wasn’t the slightest protest. The final volume of Ai Yori Aoshi concludes with the lead couple having sex (extremely loaded and drawn out and you can’t actually see anything, in typical manga fashion, but defnitely sex). Place right in the “new manga” table at Ala Moana’s Barnes And Noble, unwrapped.
Of course, given how much our economy depends on tourism, angry mobs in front of every bookstore and comic store on the island definitely isn’t the image we want to be sending.
Lucky 13 - Aw, geez. You see? You see what I’m talking about? Sailor Moon was twisted and warped beyond recognition to cater to an audience it was never intended for, and Naruto, being a step above that, has it even worse. “Loopy Fist”…blech.
Maybe CN should just cancel it; it’s becoming more trouble than it’s worth.
