Kiefer Sutherland = Jack Bauer

I watched parts of The Vanishing this weekend with some odd Jeff Bridges some less-than-typical Sandra Bullock (there was actually a change of expression once or twice) and some “sympathetic” Kiefer.

Every time I see an older role of his now, it’s impossible not to see Jack. The role was made for Kiefer and he’s been building to it his whole life.

That’s my position. If you disagree with that, either point to another Kiefer role that is more him, or else name another actor who could be Jack Bauer more.

I mean even his work in Young Guns and Lost Boys had him headed toward the rendezvous with Jack.

If you need a refresher on his work, here’s his IMDB page.

I watched Dark City this weekend and I had no problem believing he was Dr. Shreber.

We was William Burroughs in Beat, which is remarkable considering how far away he is from the physical type.

Don’t know if I totally agree, but in Flatliners he was revived from a near-death state just like hour 24 of last season.

Damn. That…was…my…exactthought.

And in the 2nd half of season 2, when he was tortured to death and brought back to life.

Though in Season 4 he was trying to use the paddles to revive Paul.

I tend to watch Phone Booth when it’s on just to listen to Keifer threaten Colin Farrell with a rifle.

And I keep thinking, “This is what would happen if Jack ever went ‘bad’.” If season 2 had been the last season, you can imagine Ryan Chapelle in that booth instead.

Kiefer as Dr. Shreber sounded a lot like Peter Lorre, or perhaps Ren from Ren and Stimpy (whose voice was obviously based on Lorre as well). I would have loved for Dr. Shreber to stand up to the Strangers just once, to say “Mr. Book! You fat, bloated, EEDIOT!”
