killing 2 birds w/one post

1st question: why was my post about hanging locked to replies?
2nd question: why is “yesterday” the default time frame in the search engine?

There was no post in your post Didn’t you hear the hamsters burp?. As for the default…it saves wear and tear on the servers.

what “hamster” post? (sarcasm doesn’t translate well, plus I like real answers to my ?'s)

You’ve been around this board for 113 posts and never gotten the repeated references people make to the SMDB servers being powered/controled by hamsters?

To translate “hamsters burp” … sometimes a new thread goes up only the title gets posted, the actual text of the message gets lost. When this happens and a mod finds it before anyone posts to it, they may just close it. This is not an indication that there was anything wrong with your thread and you are free to re-post it, hopefully having the text actually appear.

And yesterday is the default for the search engine because programmers tend to set defaults that create the least load on the servers.

A couple of links wouldn’t hurt here, eric.

Sorry, my hamster never swallowed air b4. Answer to 2nd question makes perfect sense, though.

Look eric. the answer to your first question in plain english.

The system here at the SDMB (Straight Dope Message Board) sometimes saves new threads with the title, but none of the post that the thread’s creator typed in. when this happens, there is a thread with no words in it. When the Moderators find such broken threads, they sometimes close them. this is what happened to your thread. please feel free to re-post your thread. (I am not a moderator, but I suspect that english is’t your first language and the talk of hamsters burping confused you.)
