I’ll drop what I’ve got once I do the tower stairs - I never come out of hardcore anymore, really, so I don’t have access to most of my stuff, but I’ll give the clan what I have.
Hardcore restrictions are dropped once you free the king from the prism. That’s what I meant.
And the Mad Hatrack is the current familiar of the month. (Go look in Mr. Store.)
Wow, I’m feeling pretty incompetent. How do you guys whip through ascensions so fast? I mean, I’ve been playing for a few months and haven’t ascended once yet.
Quick question, can I grab anything from the clan spoils that I can use? I’m only level 3, so I have a fair amount of adventuring to do still.
You should be able to if you have enough clan karma.
I’ve been thinking about starting up again anyway. I’m a level 14 Pastamancer that has yet to ascend even once.
I’ve applied! I’m “spatialwarp” over there, for reference. So, can someone give me a quick primer on:
-What I can expect my clan do to for me, and
-What I should be doing for my clan?
Thanks.
You’re not expected to do anything, but there’s extra crap there in the stash left by people, and stuff in the rumpus room that can help you gain levels/stats/ regain HP, etc. IN return you can leave crap or contribute cash that will help low-level members. I’ll whitelist you so feel free to join up when you are able and have a look around.
I’ll look at how many low level people we have and see whether purchasing some training might help anyone out.
The clan provides materials that increase the number of adventures you start each day with. I believe that, right now, the Friends of Cecil clan will add an additional 8 adventures to your daily total. It also has a clan stash you can add to or take from to get rid of materials you no longer want and items you need for fulfilling quests.
After a couple you kind of learn the ropes, of course until there’s new content and you have to learn new stuff. It’s a breaktime stress reliever for me, that’s why I play a good bit.
ETA - NS-13 added ages to ascensions, IMHO. The two last quests take for-freaking-ever.
Stickler, don’t worry about it, it all comes with learning the game. If you look at my ascension history, you’ll see that my first ascension took over 400 days. My most recent took 16. (My best post-NS13 is 11.)
But that is nothing. There has been at least one player who did 6 ascensions (one in each class) in one day. The serious speed ascenders can make an ascension every few days. I don’t think that most of them are in hardcore though.
Some hints that may help you though…
Food and drink are your friends. More adventures are always good. Make sure you are eating and drinking as much as you can every day. Also learn which foods and drinks are the best.
Once you have used all your adventures for the day, drink your highest value booze. You’ll be drunk, but the adventures will carry over and you will have them the next day.
Be sure to learn and perm (hardcore if you’re going that way) Advanced Cocktailcrafting, Advanced Saucecrafting and Pastamastery as soon as possible. Cooked foods and mixed drinks are much better than the base foods and drinks.
The very best foods and drinks are the result of various special or rare adventures. If you come across them you should realize what they are.
The best foods consistently available are the various Meins, but you have to have Transcendental Noodlecraft and access to the Wok of the Ages in order to make them (or buy them in the mall if you aren’t in hardcore).
Otherwise the best foods are the noodle dishes. You need Pastamastery and Advanced Saucecrafting (or access to scrumptious reagents) to make these.
Spaghetti with Skullheads - Cook a Knob Sausage with a Scrumptious Reagent to get a Sauce of the Ages. Then cook that with noodles. Gives 21-29 adventures and 47-52 muscle.
Gnocchetti di Nietzsche - Cook a Knob Mushroom with a Scrumptious Reagent to get Himalayan Hidalgo sauce then cook that with noodles. Gives 21-29 adventures and 47-52 mysticality.
Fettucini Inconnu - Cook a Goat Cheese with a Scrumptious Reagent to get a Fancy Schmancy Cheese sauce then cook that with noodles. Gives 21-29 adventures and 47-52 moxie.
Knob Sausages and Knob Mushrooms come from the Cobb’s Knob Kitchen. Goat Cheese comes from the Goatlet.
A few other dishes to keep in mind.
Hell Ramen - Cook a Hellion Cube with a Scrumptious Reagent to get Hell Broth then cook that with noodles. Gives 21-29 adventures and 23-28 each to all three stats. (You also get some meat.) Hellion Cubes come from the Deep-Fat Friars gate.
Grue Egg Omelette - Cook the Grue Egg with a Spooky Mushroom. Gives 21-29 adventures and 35-45 each to all three stats. The Grue Egg comes from the Strange Leaflet quest (so you can only get one) and Spooky Mushrooms are found in the Spooky Forest.
Finally, you can make a Milk of Magnesium by cooking Goats Milk with a Scrumptious Reagent. If you drink this before eating food you will gain a few more adventures from each.
Drinks are a bit more complicated because there are more options. I’ll go through them later if there is any interest.
I’m a disco bandit so I don’t think I can do anything with scrumptious reagents yet. But I do have advanced cocktailcrafting.
And no pressure. I joined up in 2004 and I’ve apparently only ascended four times. I’m in no hurry so every time there’s a whole lot of new material that I’m unfamiliar with and temporary stuff comes up all the time (Zombie plague? Mob penguins? Naming the Yeti? The Cola Wars? Spectral Pickle Factory? The Observatory? The Plinth?)
For drinks, if you have Advanced Cocktailcrafting a lot of speed ascenders pooh-pooh the Barrel Full of Barrels, but IMHO it’s a nice easy way to get some good booze. It’s set up like this - the top two rows has the good stuff. Items are in sets of four, as follows:
AABBCC
AABBCC
Now, what the letters stand for is random, but it’s always stat boosters, healing items, and booze. You want the booze, so just pick the first A, if it isn’t booze, then the first B, if not you know it’s C. Most days you can get four drinks that just need a cocktail item to be good drinks, and sometimes you even get a clover. (Be prepared for mimics and explosions.) Anyway, it’s an area anybody can access after level 3, it doesn’t require a lot of work or preparation or waiting around for the random number generator, and it only requires the one skill (Advanced Cocktailcrafting) for the best drinks, or it makes decent drinks for those without it. YMMV, of course, and many would disagree with me.
ETA - I am by no means a speed ascender or a really serious player, so take anything I say with a grain of salt, as I have crunched no numbers. Top row Barrel drinks are margaritas, salty dogs, etc, and everything but the rum and colas and the bloody mary’s can be instantly cocktailcrafted into top shelf booze.
All right, one last question. The MMG. I understand there is a strategy that guarantees winning every bet. Anyone know what it is?
No such thing, as far as I know. Over time, you’ll break even. Actually, the house takes a cut, so not even that
ETA - upon perusing the wiki page, it agrees. It does detail some strategies for you, though, if you’d like to feed the house some.
Maybe I should have used ?
Aaah, I feel the wind in my hair. Hey, I hear you can kill the hermit on Leap Day!
Sweet! Is that what the meaty clover is for? Maybe I can get rid of some of my valuable trinkets this way!
Can you sell extra equipment anywhere?
