I think Sylvester was his dad’s name. Boner was named after Dick Nixon. Richard Milhous Stabone, “Dickie” to his parents, “Boner” to his friends.

Boner: Sylvester
Mike: So your mother says to your father "Sylvester…(dramatic pause). Wait a minute. Your father’s name is Sylvester Stabone?
