Rejected Reasons.

Welcome to the SDMB, Garfieldfan. Debates about fictional characters belong in our arts forum, Cafe Society. A moderator will be along shortly to move it for you.

Oddly enough, if I recall my SDMB history correctly, the Great Debates forum description originally stated that one of the “discussions of the great questions of our time” to be discussed in the forum was “Kirk v. Picard.”

Later, that type of discussion was proper in the IMHO forum. Finally, Cafe Society came along to take those types of discussion.

Regular-strength Kirk, or ripped-shirt Kirk?

Well, I take no position on those particular captains. But Star Trek: TOS is better than Star Trek: TNG – because it’s just not Star Trek without the overacting! I mean, in the original series, even the fucking Vulcans were hams!

Sisko could take them both. He decked Q.

I always thought that one Star Trek guy was the coolest. That Luke Solo guy.

I sincerely hope you were joking.

Well, not as cool as that Sulu guy. Ya know, the one they called “Bones”

Of course, Mal Reynolds was far superior to all of them.

There are hundreds of reasons, but the main one is that he doesn’t wear his PJs to work.

I always liked that Chinese guy that played Uhura in the movie version of Voyager.

Oh, come on. Jonathan Frakes (Cmmr Ryker) is a classic example of overacting. He’s atually painful to watch sometimes.

Luckily for us he’s a better director/producer. Keeps him out of the camera eye.
Also. It seems to me that Brent Spiner(sp?) did most of the oddball acting in this series. And do not tell me that Gates McFadden did not over act the Mommy.

My reaction exactly! Yelling while standing completely still, cocking his head every time he turns a corner…

[slight hi-jack] In high school, I did theater, and in one play, we were supposed to have an earthquake or some damn thing, requiring us on act like everything around us was jostled. This consisted of us stumbling around, flailing our arms. We referred to this technique as “the Star Trek Wobble.”

I was going to consider throwing all the Trek captains in a no-holds-barred brawl, but then I realized that the first thing Kirk would do would be to seduce Janeway, and my mind overloaded…

What I found tragic about him is that the writers tried SO HARD to give his character a personality.

But they never came close.

Feh. Kevin Sorbo was a better spaceship captain than either of those two jokers. And believe me, that’s not an endorsement of Andromeda. You want a real matchup? Malcolm Reynolds v. John Sheridan. Those were a coupla bad-ass mofos with spaceships.

Bad-ass mofos, yes. But equally bad-ass or mofo-ish so far as spaceships are concerned? 'Fraid not - Serenity wasn’t armed. Put her against anything with, you know, weapons on it, and all Malcom could do is run.

Bah. Jason “Cmdr. Taggart” Nesmith could wipe the floor with all of 'em!
