If you look hard enough, you can find parallels to all kinds of situations…but what does it accomplish? Is comparing this conflict to what the Nazis did in WWII going to solve anything? I think it just muddies the waters further.
What has to be done is not name-calling and finger-pointing, it’s getting them to stop shooting each other and blowing each other up.
p.s. I hate drawing parallels to different situations, but if I had to in this case, I would mention the Native Americans.
I also took part in that thread where TheRyan made inflammatory statements along the lines of “homosexuality=pedophilia,” and then, when presented with overwhelming evidence to the contrary, refused to acknowledge the evidence as valid. So he impressed me as being incredibly dense. So what? (Sorry, didn’t link to the thread…and it’s a long read.)
The best or worst I can do is notice him, though I’m not above a flame in context or a smartass remark.
Don’t waste your time “stalking” him on the board. Mods don’t like it.
Israelis vs. Palestinians? Both sides have committed so much heinous shit against the other that neither government has any sympathy from me. I feel for the general population being victimized by the ideological fuckwads in power. Israelis I’ve spoken to that live in the US say that the average Jews and Arabs are sick of the bullshit. They just want life to be civilized. But no. One side or the other pulls some stunt that pisses off the other guy, the other guy retaliates, civilians on both sides get killed, and the whole goddamn cycle begins again. If I lived there, I’d move. Fuck it. Let the maniacs kill each other off, then the civilized can move back in. Never happen, but I can dream.
Kirk, if you wanna debate the Middle-East this is the wrong thread.
This thread is about you.
I totally agree with Guinastasia, you’ve expressed your dislike for Fundies yet you appear to be just as bad tempered, judgemental and rabid as any Fundie stereotype could be.
Kirk, you’re being a dick. (I let mods decide who’s being a jerk)
Yes, Ryan’s an empty headed loon. But you don’t have the right to decide what POVs get heard and discussed here. Sorry, just can’t respect you taking that freedom. You don’t want to be exposed to his particular brand of lunacy? fine, don’t read or discuss anything he writes. But to say that I can’t be exposed to his lunacy is overstepping your bounds, nullwit.
Didn’t the Nazi’s censor who could get their opinions heard and discussed? (See, you can draw parallels to all kinds of situations.) sorry, sorry, really couldn’t help myself.
and have we told you lately how attractive you look in the moderator/administrator chapeau?
Kirkland from what I’ve seen, you feel passion about issues. this is usually a good thing. However, at some point one needs to determine the goal.
If the goal is to achieve equality, justice etc, one doesn’t get it by taking on some of the lesser attributes of those that oppress, misjudge etc.
It’s far more gratifying to see those who disagree w/us fall before logical arguments, rather than allow them to dismiss the point by looking only at the way it has been presented.
One can find parallels anywhere, but these are weak at best. The UN was right to create Israel, and Israel is right to defend it’s land. If you don’t like the US and the media, then leave. We don’t want you anyways.
Better parallels can be found in Bosnia, but I don’t see you shedding tears for the last 15 years of genocide there. There isn’t even any genocide going on in the mideast, and here you are pointing the nazi finger. This is simply a war. Not a chance to wipe out an entire race, not a chance to create a master race, not even the expansion of Israel as a country.
Why? There were people living there, why was it right to shove them aside, destroy their lives and livlihoods, tear down their homes and uproot their families?
**
Maybe. but it promised the UN, in part of the despicable deal that created that state, to never seize Jerusalem. I guess the Israelis aren’t bound by treaties and agreements?
**
Bosnia is a Slavic country, and until recently was not in the United States sphere of influence. And it was not a situation created by the US and its allies. Israel’s attempts to wipe out the Palestinian state were.
And I’ll see fit to discuss whatever the fuck I want to in it.

Get a clue. Fundies are evil. They have worked, and continue to work, to deny people equal rights. they are no different than the Ku Klux Klan. Everyone who gives money to Baptist “churches” helps fund that “denomination’s” evil, and thus are guilty of its crimes against humanity. If you want to coddle monsters, fine. In the end, they will kill you, or at least condemn you to hell, because that’s how they get their kicks.
There is no vice in fighting evil with extreme measures. There is no vice in calling evil by the names it deserves. Fundamentalists, baptists, people like TheRyan are evil and descrinimatory. They deserve to be treated as such.
I’m ignoring all of your post to me, because as has been said by myself and others, this is not the right thread…but one thing troubles me:
THat, up there. What does the US have to do with any of this? Why doesn’t true genocide bother you? Why doesn’t strife and killing and war bother you anywhere but there? It’s all because it’s the only war that the United States has their hands in?
A one-trick pony you are. You don’t like people who say naughty things about Christianity. You don’t like anyone who has their own opinions about Sexuality. You don’t like Israel, and compare them to Nazis because the US is involved and they are involved in a war, and they kill people? Christ. You’re one messed up dude.
Sam
P.S.- The war between Israel and Palestine wasn’t created by the US or its allies, bonehead. It’s been going on for centuries. I will not respond to any more Israel/US/whing war comments by you as this thread is for your BEHAVIOR, not your opinions-as skewed as they are.
The genocide does bother me, and it should be stopped. The United States is not in a position to do so, or at least wasn’t until the fall of the Soviet Union. Even now we can’t move into the region without endangering our relationship with Russia, because it is part of the semi-Near Abroad.
The United States can do something about Israel. We can pull all diplomatic and military support until Israel stops its attacks, and withdraws to the borders it pledged to maintain, and allows the formation of Palestine, as it promised the UN. Until Israel does that, it is in violation of its diplomatic obligations and should be treated like a rogue state.
Kirk, wait until Collounsbury gets hold of you! Your views on the Israel/Palestinian struggle are wrong, and you need to desist from posting until you’ve done some reading.
In addition, your behavior is an embarrassment to us gay Dopers. Stop being such a screaming little bitch, why doncha?
I’ve done a great deal of reading on the subject. Both Israel and Palestine should be strung up for their conduct in this battle, but US foreign policy has been totally one-sided in favor of Israel. This is wrong.
If the UN were to push you out of your home, and give your city to someone else, how would you react? And if those people kept annexing more and more of your lands, and pushing you further and further back, what would you do? The Palestinians were already there. The UN had no business pouring all those soon-to-be-Israelis into the region.
