Kirsten Dunst

Is next in line to hit the BIG time.

 According to this, her movies have averaged $70M (a higher average than Mel Gibson or Adam Sandler). What exactly does it take to “hit the BIG time”?

Kirsten Dunst is one of the greatest actresses of her generation. She is one of less than a handful of actors for whom I’ll plot down full ticket price, sight unseen.

She annoys me. There’s something about her mouth–it’s weird when she talks. I dunno. I just don’t like to watch her.

I’m unimpressed. The only movie I’ve seen her in that I even liked was the original Spiderman and most anyone could have played that role.

I don’t think she’s a particularly great actress, but darn, she’s very, very attractive.

Curse Jake Gyllenhaal. What’s he got that I don’t?

Meh. She’s not bad, and she’s got a good agent who picks out money roles for her. But she’s no Reese Witherspoon.

I predict she’ll flake out in the next 5-7 years and become box office poison.

I predict she’ll grow into some more mature roles and be the next Michelle Pfeiffer or Dianne Wiest. Or if she’s lucky, she’ll take the Charlize Theron route, only she’ll take it further; into Meryl Streepville.

Kirsten Dunst

I don’t know what he has, but he no longer has Dunst.

As to her movies. So a few of them made a lot of dough. But most didn’t. And since I don’t care about Box Office as a guide to movie quality, her record is quite bleak in recent years. Since “Drop Dead Gorgeous” it’s only the “Spider Man” movies that have been well received and which she had a lead role. “Bring It On” and such look bad on an acting resume, regardless of money made.

This is a joke, yes?

She has as much to do with the huge take of the two Spiderman movies as Carrie Fisher has with the grosses of the Star Wars movies.

As far as I can determine, the highest grossing movie she had a real starring role in was… Bring It On. Not exactly a career maker.

She can act - I liked her very much in The Cat’s Meow, which about four other people saw. But she was horrible in Spiderman and horribly miscast. She was adequate at best in the other movies of hers that I’ve seen.

Does anybody seriously think that Wimbledon is going to be a huge breakout picture?

She is liked by the Powers That Be and that counts for a lot. Unless she finds the proper role in a good movie, though, she’ll be 30 and not cute enough to carry a picture before she knows it.

Kirsten Dunst is America’s Sweetheart and I will not hear anything to the contrary.

I had her pegged as a run-of-the-mill type until I saw her in The Cat’s Meow. She was terrific in that role. And yes, Bring It On was a “teen movie” or whatever but it was hilarious and she was good in it. She’s young yet. What she needs is a couple of juicy roles in “prestige” pictures to cement her rep.

She has a nice little singing voice too (see Get A Life.

The problem is that Dunst is currently getting the kind of roles Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan used to get. Cute will only take you so far. She’s going to have to do some stretching if she wants her career to end up more like Robert’s than Ryan’s (or God forbid, Melanie Griffith).

I see Reese Witherspoon as a more credible prospect for becoming the “next big thing”. She’s worked in a wider variety of roles, demonstrated more depth in her characters, and she’s shown she can carry movies. I predict Witherspoon will be thanking the academy before Dunst does.

…And my soul is crushed.

You mean I have a second chance? Soul uncrushed!

Dude, dig a little deeper. She’s done some serious shit, and she’s done it well. She’s already ten times the actor that Ryan and Roberts are combined. She’s not yet quite as good as Melanie Griffith, but let’s hope she doesn’t succumb to the same stupid career moves Melanie did; Melanie’s first few movies had everyone grooming her for Oscars, too. Such is life.

Not true;* Bring It On *was a critical success and has quickly become a cult fave.

Naysayers have to keep quiet until they’ve seen Interview with a Vampire, Crazy/Beautiful, and Dick, at minimum.

I love Drop Dead Gorgeous. (I also have a rather unique interpretation of it.) It was one of the most insidiously funny movies in the last few years. The Cat’s Meow was also classic.

I saw a while ago some fluff piece on her that mentioned the fact that she has acted “with” a ton of big name actors. The list was something like:

Tom Cruise
Brad Pitt
Dustin Hoffman
Robert DeNiro
Tom Hanks
Bruce Willis
etc…

The point was that she had acted with all these people before she got out of her teens, as she was quite young in the Bonfire of the Vanities and Interview with a Vampire, and was still in her teens in Wag the Dog.

However, I am a fan of hers despite Bring it On. (I luuuuvvvv Eliza Dushku.) I thought she performed solidly in both Crazy Beautiful and The Virgin Suicides.

Sorry, but I have some bad news for you.
