Kitchen sink drip guard?

I have a standard kitchen sink setup: divided sink set into the counter, with about an inch or so of counter between the edge of the sink and the edge of the countertop (like this; it’s the same basic kitchen sink setup nearly everyone has).

Water tends to collect on that narrow strip of counter area in front of the sink and drip down the front of the cabinets (or soak into my shirt if I lean on it).

Is there some kind of standard solution for this that I don’t know about, or do I have to custom build some sort of lip or drip rail onto it?

There are pre-formed laminate countertop profiles that have a raised edge, they are not common I am guessing due to both style and limitations of the medium. You could add a raised hardwood edge to a standard laminate counter. I have seen stainless commercial work surfaces with a raised lip, usually with the basin incorporated. There are also old style porcelain sinks that included a lip and actually wrap around the front of the cabinet. They were back in fashion a few years ago. Check Kohler and other manufacturers websites.

The standard solution is to keep a dish towel handy to wipe up as you go and walk around looking like you wet yourself when you forget to wipe up.

You may want to consider replacing your kitchen sink with one that has a recessed sink with a ‘lip’ around it.
