Kitten question Re: Bump on her side. Vets?

We have a 4 1/2 month old kitten who I totally love. We adopted her from the Hamilton SPCA in August, and she makes me so happy. She has had medical checkups and vaccines and been spayed, and nothing then has seemed abnormal, and we are told that she is healthy. They even did a blood test before the spay operation to check for liver and kidney problems, or any other complications (including allergic reactions) that may occur during surgery.

That said, we have just found a bump on her side that we are worried about. It’s located just “below” (behind) her ribcage, on her right hand side, about an inch down from her spine. It seems to be about the size of a penny, and is somewhat hard with respect to the area around the bump. We looked at her skin in that area, and it is not discoloured as far as we can tell through her coat (her skin is very pink as she is a predominantly white cat). We have noticed no odd habits since we adopted her that might be signs of problems, nor have we had the vet tell us that anything seemed abnormal to her (although this hasn’t yet been brought to her attention).

We plan on calling the vet and asking over the phone, but I’d like to possibly have a better idea about whether or not this is serious. Do cats get moles? I am having trouble Googling information, since I don’t know what to look for - I know we have some vets and vet techs on the boards…can you help?

I should add that she doesn’t seem to be sensitive at that spot, nor does it have any sort of discharge or cut or anything at all other than just a bump. I can shift it around a little without any problems, much the same as I can for most of her skin, which makes me believe that it isn’t part of an organ or deinitely not a piece of bone or something like that.

Bree did get spayed only last Tuesday (17th), but I don’t believe that this would have been the site of any IV or blood sample location, etc.

If you can move it around, it may just be a fat cyst-my Fluffy had a few of those her whole life. There was no problem what so ever.

Good luck with your kitten. What’s her name?

Her name is Bree, but we tend to occasionally also call her Monster, Nightmare, or the elss attractive, ShitDisturber  She’s a very active and excitable kitty, with a slight tendancy to get aggressive (biting and clawing) when she plays too much. We are managine to control that somewhat with angry-voice commands and a squirt bottle

I hope it is just a fat cyst, and nothing to worry about.

My cat had a cancerous lump removed 2 years ago. It started out small - the size of a pea, and it grew fast. By the time he had surgery to have it removed about two weeks after I found it, it had grown to about 2" in diameter. It was hard, and IIRC, it didn’t move. Very scary, I’d definitely get it checked out.

My cat is doing well after 2 years, no more lumps, the vet got it all. I remember the report after it got tested - very malignant.

I like Guin’s answer better! I guess I’ll have to call the vet tomorrow!
