KMFDM is back together!

Indeed, the grandfathers of beat-driven industrial music are back together after a two year break-up! KMFDM is a really cool industrial band that has been around since 1983 and was deeply influential in most popular indurstrial bands.

One thing, though. En Esch is not in the group anymore. Everyone else is back(Sascha and Skold), but En Esch is still out. But hey, at least the band is back. They are recording their new album now, due out first quarter 2002(with new artwork by Brute!).

I love this band for a lot of reasons, but one is that they are the hardest working band around. They released an album every year from 1992 to 1999(when they broke up).

This is Counter Culture
From the Underground.
Eternal Revolution,
This is how it sounds.
KMFDM is better than the best,
Megalomaniacal and harder than the rest!

Yeah, I was just over at the KMFDM website the other day looking for some lyrics and noticed. It’s good news, I’m happy about it. This means I might be able to catch KMFDM in concert sometime - something I was pretty sure I had missed my chance at when I heard about the breakup.

I wasn’t really sure what the breakup was about in the first place. The timing happened so close to the Columbine massacare, I always thought that had something to do with it. Especially since Asshole and Fuckwad seemed to quote KMFDM so liberally in their web pages of insane hate.

Truth be told, I would have been happy to just have Sascha, Tim and Lucia keep doing MDFMK. Bummer about En Esch though. Hopefully he’ll keep doing Slick Idiot.

Very good news! This just made my night.

SMOKE SOME DOPE

VIRUS GONNA KILL Y’ALL

WOOOO!

KMFDM is a drug against war!!

Yeah, I’m not yer typical candidate for industrial, but I got to hear this band back when I was a young impressionable high school student. I’ll be waiting for the new one with bated breath . . .
Tripler
Their videos kick ass.

With bated breath? Wow, I’ve never heard someone use Shakespeare to describe their feelings for KMFDM.

mmmmmmmmmmm

en esch

mmmmmmmmm the till before there was till.

I really am happy to hear this. Although I have to agree MDFMK was just as entertaining, if not confusing to explain to people.

jarbaby

Wow… I’m my father now!

Who the hell is KMFDM??

Kill Mother Fucking Depeche Mode.

Really?

I feel as if I’m being played for a chump right now…

no, that’s not what it stands for.

Come here Maeglin, let me slap you.

jarbaby

Well, jarbaby… what DOES it stand for??

and instead of being snotty, I’ll provide you what it really means

Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid

No pity for the majority (I think)

Those germans. They’re a lot of fun.

jarbaby

I’m too tired for subtlety right now…

Someone just tell me, and I’ll be happy…

ahrrrr…ummm… OK…

What does that mean in English?

That’s what it means Astro! No Subtlety involved.

I wouldn’t lie to ya. Not about Germany.

jarbaby

Nein, man kann nicht mich verslappen.

And sorry to offend your delicate sensibilities, jar, but I just couldn’t resist.

That’s alright. Very few men can resist my delicates.
wait…what?

I can sure sleep better at night.

Robin

Uh, he was saying that KMFDM meant “No pity for the majority”

Actually, it means “No Majority for the Pity” because they put the two M-words backward for no reason. This band has a lot of fun doing things that don’t make sense like that.

MDFMK is the band that formed and released an album on the one year KMFDM was broken up. They simply reversed the letters and released an odd album(two members of KMFDM were in MDFMK).

Check this link for a basic summary of KMFDM with sound clips. They are known for their albums covers.

See? they really release a lot of albums.

“KMFDM” is an acronym for a german phrase. The phrase is “Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid”, which is a mangled version of the real German phrase “Kein Mitleid Fur Die Mehrheit” (notice the transposition of “mehrheir” and “mitleid”). The original phrase translates as something along the lines of “No pity for the masses” or “No mercy for the majority”. The actual KMFDM acronym, therefore, translates to the silly nonesense phrase: “No masses for the pity” or “No majority for the mercy”.

As the name might imply, despite appearances KMFDM doesn’t really take themselves too seriously. Sascha Konietzko, who’s the closest thing KMFDM has for a leader, said on the KMFDM “Beat By Beat” music video collection:

“We take what we are doing very seriously, but that doesn’t mean that we are serious about everything that we’re doing. The drive behind this band was never like, ‘Let’s start a band and get, like a good record deal, and make lots of money’ It’s more like we want to see how far we can go, in terms of ripping the system…”

I’ve never quite been sure what Sascha means when he says “ripping the system.” I think it has something to do with “let’s go out and have fun, make a bunch of music we like that pokes fun of everything and everyone - especially ourselves - and then see if anyone’s stupid enough to pay us for doing it.”
Musically, KMFDM makes a somewhat loud, noisy, industrial kind of techno they call “Ultra Heavy Beat”. I don’t care what they call it, I just like it.

http://www.kmfdm.net is their website. They have a FAQ. (Do these guys rock or what?)

For a person just starting to listen to KMFDM, you’re probably best off buying their “! @ # $ %” (aka “Symbols”) album. The first three tracks are pretty darn good. I also like their albums “Nihil”, “XTORT”, and the post-breakup album “MDFMK” (whose name, one assumes, would translate as “Pity the for masses no.” ;])

I’ll leave you with a lyric snippet that always made me grin…

“More and faster, here we come!
White and trashy and incredibly dumb!
Enjoy yourself, crash-boom-bang.
The final solution - KMFDM.”

Now no more questions about KMFDM! Go listen for yourself!
