Knit/Crochet Practitioners Unite!

This message board pretty much inspired me to learn how to knit, and while I’m still no great shakes at it, I thought I’d put out a word for Afghans for Afghans. I have no affiliation, except perhaps geographical proximity to the San Francisco base of it and a few on-needles projects hopefully destined to make the deadline.

Also, since this thread is here, if anyone cares to mention their own personal favourite needlework charity, or even just their pet project at the moment; I’d love to hear about it.

I recently taught a class in jacquard knitting, or double-sided-reversible knitting, to the Seattle Knitters’ Guild. There’s a charity project going on there that I don’t know much about, but I can find out more if anyone is interested. One of the members’ daughters, also a hardcore knitter, was recently murdered. Her mother is seeking volunteers to complete her daughter’s many unfinished projects to be given to charity. There’s also a wonderful book of knit hat designs whose profits go to a cancer fund (all of the hats in the book were designed with chemo patients in mind, though they’d all look great on just about anybody).

Another neat organization is Project Linus. Their mission states:

So, this is what happens from never going to SKG meetings. I not only miss learning about double sided knitting, I miss meeting dopers, and miss getting in touch with charity projects.

If you can find out, I’d love to know what project they’re working on.
