Koch brother files brief in support of gay marriage

So, are you screaming bloody murder about THIS case of rich guys trying to spend money to influence politicians?

Meaning that it makes no sense to fund a party with millions of dollars if you disagree with some of the biggest reasons people actually vote for that party.

I thought they grew up in Kansas.

Since there is no viable libertarian party, the best way to get to one is to fund the one that’s more amenable to libertarian views.

The Democratic Party places the interests of its wealthy donors above the interests of unions on environmental issues. The Kochs probably figure they can “enlighten” the GOP by similarly causing it to ignore the rubes in favor of what their more educated donors want. Such as liberalism on social issues. YOu also see this dynamic on immigration. The donor base wants a liberal immigration policy, the rubes want less immigration and more deportations. The “problem” with the GOP is that it listens more to its median voter than the Democrats do.

Good. May I suggest they spend the entirety of their $900 million earmarked for the 2016 campaign on supporting this one issue?

See? I knew it was all a nefarious plot by those evil Koch Brothers!

Hey, Dubya had a rural Texas upbringing in Connecticut. The GOP can export that kind of stuff these days, so anyone who they think will need credibility with t̶h̶e̶ ̶h̶e̶l̶p̶ the Real Americans can have it.

The word “libertarian” has been so thoroughly co-opted by conservatives that it’s a shock to hear a self-described libertarian actually advocate libertarian ideas.

2 things:

  1. I’m not screaming bloody murder about anything.
  2. Amici briefs are pretty ‘meh.’

Ahh, thank you. I get you now.

Actually it makes complete sense. Dollars don’t vote directly. The fatcats can control the legislature only *after *it gets elected, and only if the legislators that got elected aren’t actively opposed to fatcats.

So the fatcat goal is to ensure fatcat-friendly, or at least fatcat-neutral legislators get elected. And they do that by funding the correct team. They don’t give a hoot in hell *why *the unwashed masses vote for their favorite party. All they care is that the unwashed masses actually do vote for their favorite party in numbers enough to win.
