As part of DeBoer v. Snyder, David Koch, of Koch brothers fame, is filing a brief in his personal capcity in support of gay marriage.

So that’s 0 for 2 on gay marriage and evolution. I have to imagine this pisses a lot of conservatives off, to know that even the guy pulling for them the most (at least by dollar count) still thinks their ideas are ridiculous.

Idiocy in one area does not always mean idiocy in others. But yeah, I’m surprised too. I would have guessed that those guys just hated everything about the “liberal agenda”.

I personally know quite a few conservatives that support gay marriage, evolution, pro-choice, equal rights, civil rights, relaxed criminal penalties for non-violent crimes, etc.

David Koch is fairly liberal in anything that doesn’t affect his money or taxes.

Well, I’m surprised. I clicked the link fully expecting to find out it had been Frederick or Bill who actually did this. (There are four Koch brothers, Charles and David being the outspoken political conservatives of the bunch.)

But it really was David. Good for him!

Indeed, they both describe themselves as generally libertarian, so this shouldn’t really surprise anyone.

I think the Koch’s think the crazy wing of the GOP is an obstacle to electing the business wing of the GOP to do their bidding.

So the sooner the crazy wing gets deflated, one way or another, the sooner their plans for World Domination come to fruition. Hence these recent chess moves.

The fact some lefties will become confused along the way is just a bonus. See posters above.

Yeah, that’s kind of the point. There was that Grover Norquist project to figure out years ago how to sell Republican politics to all the voters against their interest, and since then they’ve specialized in these weird alliances between the low tax crowd and the various edge groups doing their bidding, such as school prayer, anti-abortion, and of course anti-LGBT equality. But mistreating people for being born LGBT has reached the tipping point and it’s a losing strategy in Republican politics now. The Kochs don’t want to throw millions against it if it’s not going to win elections.

There are lots of smart, rational conservatives who believe that government interference with the economy is harmful, but have no problem with supporting gay marriage and accepting scientific truth.

The problem is, there are not nearly enough of them to win an election with.

I would point out that David Koch doesn’t have a lot of patience for the scientific consensus on global climate change.

But good for him on supporting gay rights.

I suspect that what he doesn’t have a lot of patience with is the amount of money it would cost him were substantive actions to be taken in response to that consensus.

The Kochs have long supported many liberal causes. How they are portrayed is probably mostly a function of one’s own biases.

I find it a little mystifying for old conservative white dudes to be unhappy about ANYTHING that’s fairly common among conservatives. It’s not like they just found out it all yesterday, FFS. LOL

At least Nova has fewer climate change episodes now that his foundation is a sponsor. PBS was close to unwatchable for a while there. NOT that anthropogenic climate change is not a problem, but it was wearing to be beat over the head with it by every damn show that wasn’t a Britcom.

Here in Kansas religious conservatives have been warned that the Koch brothers might not be the allies they think since they are pro abortion and gay rights.

Frederick, the eldest. And he’s not gay, he just happens to like Fine Art and Broadway plays. His rural Texan upbringing, and Charles’s zeal to replace him on the path to corporate overlordship, prompted Charles and their Father to paint him as homosexual. Their father was the sort to interpret sensitivity in males as homosexuality. He was a real ox from what i’ve been told.
