Korn guitarist finds God, leaves band

Not a rocker, but a rapper – Mase gave up music for the ministry a few years ago before returning to music recently.

Don’t forget M.C. Hammer.

Hammer never came back, though. AFAIK he’s still preaching.

CeCe Winans is still going strong, too.

So is Vanity, that chick that used to be with Prince.

Not a musician, but Stephen Baldwin got saved and has been preaching ever since. His maid led him to the Lord, IIRC.

Sometimes they stay gone.

Dude, that place is right around the corner! I could go, ya know, if I gave a rat’s behind. Quite frankly, I’d rather keep the rat’s behind.

These guys are GODS here, it’s awful. To me, they are all jerks who bashed on their home town and allowed stations like MTV to do the same. They let down the community they came from and that’s lame.

Bah, I say the world is a better place. Maybe he can take Fred Durst with him?

Speaking of Prince, he recently became a Jehovah’s Witness, and refuses to play his raunchier songs in concert anymore.

Gor blimey, 'ave a butchers at this wiv yer mincers. Kahbbalahs, me old china.

Yeah, I haven’t been too pleased with their latest offerings, but those two first albums kicked some ass.

If you have some time on your hands check out this detailed article of how Korn came to be. I always find it interesting how bands go from nothing to the top of the world.

George Harrison went through one of those “spiritual transformations” years ago too.

Don’t forget my favorite Chasidic Reggae artist, Matisyahu. His transformation came before he got big, though.

Well, that was a quote from James Dean, which would date you more than anything.

The quote, however, has nothing to do with rock in the last 20 years. The motto seemed to be, “Live hard, die hard, and leave a corpse so ravaged by sex drugs and booze that only a dentist could I.D. you.” Have you seen Mick Mars lately?

I’m pretty sure Keith Richards is already dead.

He seems to have gotten past that minor inconvenience, although he does look the part.

Doesn’t he have that disease where your muscles slowly turn to bone though? Not that he doesn’t look fucked up enough all ready.

Did Patti Smith have some kind of religious transformation when she quit music? It talks about when she quit in a book I read, but the details were vague.

Alice Cooper found God, but I’ve heard that he still made a few albums afterward. I don’t know how good they are, but I’m not a fan of his anyway.

I don’t know if Bob Dylan counts. I don’t know much about his history, but I’m thinking of his conversion to Christianity. Wasn’t he always Jewish anyway though? I don’t know if that counts as a religious awakening. Didn’t he leave christianity, anyway?

Peter Murphy went through a transformation. I don’t know when, but he converted to Sufism and moved to Turkey.

Dragontown featured songs about how the devil is going to get you, how bad hell is, how war is hell, how you can go to hell and not know why, how wanting to play God can get you sent to hell, how a nun got sent to hell because of her promiscuity, and how Elvis got sent to hell for gluttony. I don’t think he was very happy when he wrote it.

Speaking of Dylan, I thought Slow Train Coming (during his “Christian” era) was one of his best albums. You may now all pelt me with the vegetation of your choice.

The first half of Run-DMC is now Reverend Run.

Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) got religion and quit the R&R biz altogether. Rumor has it that he went to court to stop them sending him all that (royalty) money.

Jesus didn’t finish the job - Jonathan Davis says they’re staying together and will tour with the remaining four members.

That crafty Satan…
