Kosciuszkowy pickles

What happenened to them? I was at the store last night and looked for alternatives to Vlasic, and remembered this brand. They were hugely popular in the midwest and I know they used to be on the shelves here in Colorado, but not anymore.

I can’t find a website for them, and a google search took me to Dean Foods, and while they have several brands of pickles, Kosciuszkowy is not one of them.

What happened?

I miss them, too, but have found an excellent replacement in the Mt. Olive polish dills. Much better than Vlasic, IMHO.

Maybe they went out of business because they couldn’t afford all the paper required for the labels.

Plus, how could you recommend them to others? “You should go get a jar of Kos . . . Kosh . . . fuck it, go get some Vlasics.”

Anyone else reminded of General Kosiucsko?

Also, according to ilovepickles.org, you can call this number in Wisconsin and order Kosciuszkowy pickles: 920.497.7131

link. Wisconsin is at the bottom of the page.

Dean Foods happened. Over the years, they have purchased many pickle companies; they have gradually dropped the individual names, except in a few rare cases. Take Cates pickles, for example. Evidently, Dean’s is still packing pickles in Wisconsin under that label; the phone number is the same as that listed in NinetyWt’s link. (Aunt Jane and Dailey, among others, are also listed under that number and were originally owned by the Cates Pickle Company.) Cates was founded in Faison, NC in 1898; they were bought out by Dean Foods in the late '80s. The plant in Faison is still running, but with the Dean Foods name rather than Cates. And there isn’t a place in Faison where you can purchase a jar of Cates pickles.
