KOTOR: Kashyyyk and the Dark Jedi

I’m stuck with those damn Dark Jedi on Kashyyyk. Can anyone advise how they did it?

Walk in, use Force Wave, then beat them up with your weapons of choice? (I saw duel weilded light sabers used.) This is the method I’ve seen put to good use at least. Good luck, hope that helps.

Throw on a couple of shields to help minimize the damage, a stim or two, concentrate all your character attacks on the same one, and use all melee attacks. If you can, have Zaalbaar, or other characters with strong attacks (no T3).

Don’t be afraid to pause after every attack and use a medpack.

Force Wave damages and can stun enemies in a large area, and it can’t be resisted. It also knocks them back so they can’t melee. It is very useful, and a general ability.

How I did it (I haven’t read any walkthroughs so it probably isn’t the most efficient)

  1. Load your party with Jedis. By this point, you should have Bastila and Juhani.
  2. I like to use Force Hurricane. If it takes, then you can attack twice while the opponent is stunned.
  3. Keep a close eye on your life points; don’t put too many attacks in the que in case you need to cast some Force Heals.

One sees Dark Jedis pretty commonly throughout the game and they get easier to beat as you XP up.

Force Wave is the final result of the progression, it goes Force Push, Force Whirlwind, then Force Wave. I believe the person “flurried” (with light sabers) their opponents while they were stunned.

What Dark Jedi are you talking about? The only problem I ever remember having on Kashyyyk is when that bounty hunter showed up there (was his name Calo Nord?) On that particular occasion, I found him to be pretty much the toughest encounter in the game. He gave me more trouble than Malak.

Are you talking about the Sith apprentice?

Or just regular, generic Dark Jedi? You shouldn’t be having trouble with generic Dark Jedi at this point. If you are, I suspect you’ve never played an RPG before (nothing wrong with that at all) and recommend that you find some strategy guides online. They should be a really big help. Try www.gamefaqs.com

How you approach each situation in KOTOR and other similar games depends on how you have set up your character. You can’t really give general advice in a game with so much diversity, however, as mentioned before shields and stims are very handy.

Eh, I haven’t read the KOTOR strategy guides on gamefaqs.com so I’ll list a few major points in case they don’t mention them over there.

#1. (And this goes for all RPGs that I know of) Make sure everybody in your party is on the same target in larger encounters. 4 enemies at 50% health attack just as hard as 4 enemies at 100% health. You can use the same resources that it took to do that to get 2 enemies at 0% health (dead.) Now you’ve turned the tables on them. You’ve got 4 party members at 50% health that attack just as well as 4 party members at 100% health and there are only 2 of them left. Get it?

#2. Don’t try to do the larger KOTOR encounters in real-time. Pause between every round and queue up force powers and medpacs not only for yourself but for all your party members. If I’m really in the stink I’ll load one Jedi with all force-heals (Jolee Bindo, if I have him - he has lots of forcejuice but isn’t too good with a lightsaber), then queue all my party members with Attack-Medpac-Medpac-Attack-Medpac…etc.

The Dark Jedi don’t specifically appear on Kashyyyk, but instead are triggered by the number of planets visited. I think it’s on the second planet you choose (after Dantooine) that they appear, although it’s been a while so I could be mistaken.

The easiest way to beat anyone in the game is to go with an all-Jedi party. Stun your opponents with your choice of power, then do Knight/ Master Speed and Flurry the hell out of 'em. You can effectively hit an opponent as many as six times per turn with a single lightsaber with this combination; if they’re already stunned, there’s very little in the game that won’t go down after three or four turns.

In fact, once you get Master Speed, Master Flurry, Master Duel Wielding, and either a double-bladed saber or two single-blades, you’re basically an unstoppable Jedi death machine. This doesn’t happen until relatively late in KOTOR 1, but you can reach this level less than halfway through KOTOR II, which makes the battles rather laughably easy afterwards.

Thanks guys.

Now advice about beating that Calo Nord guy would be appreciated. I’ve got myself, Bastila, and Juhani. We’re all about level 10 or so. Bastila and Juhani have ‘Burst of Speed’.

Assuming you haven’t reached Calo Nord already, upgrade to Knight Speed as quickly as you can. I tend to favor Flurry over Power Strike or whatever the other melee feats are, for the reasons mentioned above. Don’t bother getting Throw Lightsaber, as nine times out of ten you’ll do more damage by charging into melee range and Flurrying instead.

Once you get to Calo Nord, immediately cast your various Force powers (probably starting with the stun attack, so he doesn’t hit you while you’re casting). Have one of your Jedi (in your case, probably Bastila, unless your player character is a Jedi Consular) act as a dedicated healer while the other two attack. Always concentrate your attacks- better to wipe out enemies one at a time to reduce incoming fire than gradually whittle away at their health independently. I prefer to attack Calo Nord last, as his minions are easily dispatched, and you don’t want to be caught in a crossfire while facing off with a boss character (particularly if some of the minions are grenadiers).

If you need help, use grenades. Grenades are powerful, long-range area atacks, and you can use one every action. It’s not quite as good as hacking away with lightsabers, but safer.

Get everyone in your party throwing grenades at Colo Nord’s minions, charge in and hack the minions to pieces (one at a time), then everyone gang up on Calo. It’s a good idea to get one of your Jedis to keep using heal at this point so the Jedi Calo is attacking doesn’t get too injured.

I’m surprised at the poster who had less trouble with Malek than Calo as

!!BIG SPOILER!! If you haven’t completed the game then please don’t read, it’ll ruin it for you.

my main character wasn’t a Guardian and got killed by 2 hits from Malek without even hitting him! I had been used to fighting as part of a team and got force powers accordingly, it was a bit annoying having to fight Malek alone.

I spent the whole game leveling up Jedi powers and stuff like dominate mind. The only way I beat Malek was to cheat, it was a very unfair switcharoo they pulled I think! To beat the game honestly I would have had to start over and focus on combat.

The first time I played was light side and I got a lot of buffs, utility, and defensive force powers. This made Malak almost impossible to beat. I think it took me 20+ tries.

The second time I played dark side and focused on offensive powers. I wiped the floor with Malak on the first try so easily that it was almost funny. On this occassion, I found Calo Nord to be tougher because I wasn’t as powerful when I met him.

The secret to both KotoR games is Force Storm. Have three Jedi in your party, preferably dark, and give everyone Force Storm. Enter combat, pause, queue up as many Force Storms as possible for everyone, and unpause.

Everything fries.

Now I understand why Palpatine loves the dark side. KotoR 2 became a joke, combat-wise, once that power was available. Everything just died.

I found the easiest way to complete both KOTOR games was to play as a fully-focused Guardian, concentrating all skills and feats into proficiency with the lightsabre. Buy your character the best armour you can and just run around slashing and slicing, hardly anything can touch you and you deal out huge amounts of damage, my characters were very weak in the ways of the force but were so strong that it didn’t matter.

More problems.

Manaan. Malak’s Apprentice and Two Dark Jedi. I’ve got my ass whipped a bunch of times here.

Any tips?

Force suppression if you have it, and liberal use of heal and medkits. Remember too, you can move around when fighting. Make them chase you…use mines if you have them, grenades if you don’t.
