Krispy Kreme savory smells

Driving by the Krispy Kreme’s around here, you are just flooded with that insane Krispy Kreme smell. Its that like a piped out sorta smell like they do at the Cinnabon place in the mall where they actually have a little machine that emits that cinniminy odor or is that the real deal baking in the kitchen. Its so strong and constant and just all enveloping that it could be contrived, but may not be.

If you can answer this, it will settle an argument between some friends over here. Any info?

None of the smells are coming from anything baking, frying maybe, but not baking. Haven’t been in a Krispy Keme in a long time, but I don’t think they do any cinnamon bun (baking) type products.

Well, I have some good friends that used to live right behind the Krispy Kreme on Ponce in Atlanta. Although the luscious smell was very pungent once you stepped out of their front door, it wasn’t there all the time - and not simply on account of wind or what have you. I mean, the parking deck for their place backed up the the KK lot… As you went to your car, you could see the KK drivers loading up their trucks. Given that you couldn’t smell it all the time, I think it’s real - after all, why go to the trouble of implementing such a system if you’re not gonna use it all the time? And smelling up a mall is one thing but I don’t see a huge advantage to smelling up a neighborhood - after all, everyone that lives there knows where it is already, while people passing through probably won’t smell it if their windows are up.

Man, the Krispy Kreme on Ponce is legendary. I’ve got fond memories of stopping by at 3 in the morning when the “Hot Donuts Now” sign is flashing and checking out the cops, punks, and teenage hustlers all waiting for donuts…

KKs don’t smell savoury at all to me, but sickeningly sweet. Fairly unsavoury, in fact

transvestites, Goths, homeless people, slumming beautiful people and my crowd – middle class black college students – coming from Chicken N Waffles down the street before heading back to the AU Center.

Y’all making me hungry and homesick, dammit.

I don’t know if the scent is wafting naturally, or assisted by fans or some such. What I **do ** know is Mr. AdoptaMom is incapable of passing a Krispy Kreme when the red light is flashing. Fortunately for us, he only passes one when he is returning from a Friday fishing trip, which guarantees that we’ll have donuts and milk for dinner. Any wonder why our kids love us so much? lol
