Melin and I will be there!
First, I’d like to thank everyone who went. My past week was really crappy and this just made me feel better than I have in a long time.
Pat Thanks for driving me and putting up with mindless hours at Hermosa Beach.
Doob Thanks for coming such a long way for this and also putting up with the mindless hours. It was great to finally meet you.
Shayna Thanks for setting all of this up and for not kissing Spiny Norman too much in front of my virgin eyes.
Esprix You rock.
I have no clue how someone could dislike you after sitting down with you for a while. You need to get those pictures of you in Drag up on the net.
Johnny Thanks for coming and regailing me with stories about screwing with people’s heads at 10,000 feet. You were fun, even though you didn’t make your infamous french fry boat.
SPOOFE Thanks for the conversation and tips about your brother’s hidden homosexuality.
Monster I will carry out what you wanted me to do. However, I will not send you any prints or negatives.
Everyone else, once again, thanks.
This was a great fest, everyone got up and walked around and talked to everyone else. I got to talk to most everyone, though I wish I could have spoken a bit more to Cowboy Greg. Thanks for a really good time everyone.
“Saucy” is a great word. You just got points.
Is the North/South thing still on? Wasn’t it going to be next month?
stoid
Pat, I noticed that you ordered only fries, as I did. IIRC, you also had only fries at the ScuzzyDash, at Gladstones, and of course, so did I. Are you a fellow potato bug?
Much fun at the fest. However, I’m not in much of a mood to delve too deeply into the experience (dealing with a moron on another message board throws off my levity-O-meter). However, I will say that the pictures will be forthcoming ASAP.
Yar, Har har! Shiver me timbers an’ walk be plank! I thank ye for th’ pirate, M’lin!
It was a fairly late night for me (I’m used to getting up at 0500) and I haven’t had my coffee yet, so I’ll have to be brief. Shayna took Spiny Norman down to see my '46 Willys. Since they had walked to the shindig, I gave them a ride home in it. If I told ya how much fun I had at the fest, there’s no way I could keep this short. You’ll have to wait.
The only bad part of the evening was on the way home. Just about every traffic light from Redondo Beach to West L.A. was red. I was about four miles from home, accellerating and going downhill, when the light ahead went yellow. I let off the gas rather abruptly and something happened. The engine howled and started running rough. I don’t know if I threw a rod, or what; but I limped home. I’m crossing my fingers…
I don’t know any of the parties involved ( East coast and all) But for God’s sake, grow the fuck up, Jab! That was the whinest post I’ve seen in quite some time, and I’m including hacking the Mod que at the PP in that. Sheesh!
Hope the rest of y’all had fun! Merc says it was a blast. Now get all yo’ asses to Baltimore, and meet the Balto/DC crew. We rock as well.
Hi everyone! - and thank you for an excellent evening.
Again, the LA Dopers showed up in force. A total turn-out of 20-something - I believe the official count was 22 - gathered in an excellent Mexican restaurant with bathtub-sized margaritas. The absence of Heloise did lead to some worrying, but we later found out that she had arrived safe and sound and in time, but at the wrong restaurant.
Due to our group’s arrival over an interval of around an hour, there was much playing of musical chairs with resulting mingling. Again one could see what through-and-through great people the Dopers are. It was fun to see both the familiar faces from the previous dopefest as well as some new & shiny ones.
Shayna and yours truly would like to thank everyone for coming to our back yard - we could’ve walked home, but thanks to Johnna L.A.'s truly magnificent Jeep, we didn’t have to.
Once again, we had a blast. I’ll be back in October, perhaps we might consider a Dopetoberfest ?
S. Norman - with a bit of assistance from the beautiful Shayna (Hi Sweetie!)
Monster, checking in. I had a blast. I’ve always liked El Torito’s food.
Java, again, thanks for the ride.
I had some nice discussions with Johnny about guns and explosives and such. This guy rocks!
I had very limited exposure to the other end of the table…sorry I didn’t get to socialize very much with you all down there! I had the misfortune of sitting next to my brother, but it was balanced out by being able to meet a bunch of new people.
Oh, and everybody: Doob isn’t as scary as he seems!

Oh please, as if I’m THAT scary in chat anyway. Pff…whutevah!
Anyway, I had a blast hanging out with the LA Dopers. It’s quite a difference from the BADs…mostly because the BADs all get drunk and eventually end up at someone’s house! :). I really enjoyed my trip down south. I actually like both the bay area and the LA area (both have their good and bad points…i guess I look objectively at them ;)). I was dissapointed to have to go back to Monterey and eventually get back to my regular life of dealing with difficult assholes at work (the end of the table i was at heard me go off on that topic! :)).
I must say it was a shame i didnt get to really talk with a few people there, but that tends to happen at all Dopefests. So, hopefully i’ll get to go to another and talk more with people like Cowboy Greg.
Anyway, if any of you LA people want to make a trek up north, I’m sure us BADs would love to show you how we do things (we’ve shown Pat a few times ;)).
One last thing:
Merc, if Me and Pat ever go with you to Hermosa Beach, you had better show us more of that town. Especially after lauding it and promoting it to me in PM’s so much (Hmm…i’m beginning to think you were trying to decieve me to make sure I go down there ;)).
Hey! Who showed up early? Not I! The town is funny if I have money. I was trying to conserve for the dinner.
