I’m just wondering… how expensive, roughly, is Ye Olde King’s Head? I just wanna know how much money to bring.
Fish’n’chips are $9.95 for the queen size (which is more than enough food for me) and $12.95 for the king size (which I find is enough for two people – YMMV). I drink Guinness there, which is about $4.00/pint. A friend from Washington and I went there when she came down. Two queen size orders of fish’n’chips and two drinks, plus tax and (I think I left 20%) tip was $36. Unless you feel like a walk or can find free parking on the street, you’ll need to park in a lot or a structure.
There is food that costs more, and some that costs less. There are cheaper beers than Guinness, and how much you pay depends on how much you drink. (BTW: You know that Ouzo I had up at Jerry’s Deli? That was nine bucks! :eek: )
FTR, parking at the structure at the mall is free if you get there before 6 (supposedly a 3 hour limit, but they never, ever seem to check), and a $3 flat rate after 6, and a $3 flat at all the other structures after 7.
The only complaint I’ve ever had about YOKH was that the service can be dog slow sometimes. 'Course seeing as how we’re going to be there for hours, it really shouldn’t matter much.

Hmmm, I’d really like to be there, but considering traffic and the fact that work starts at 5 a.m. the next morning… Is there any chance of starting this at 7 instead of 8? That would give me at least a half-chance of being there. Otherwise, I suppose I can wait until next time, too. <pout>

Shayna, I was there for 5 (ish) days. I got in on Saturday evening and flew out on Thursday morning. My schedule was pretty full, so I didn’t want to try to schedule everyone else around me. DRY was kind enough to drive down to Newport Beach to see me, though. We had dinner with my co-workers who were there for a class we were all taking. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet more LA dopers, though. Maybe I can come up with another reason to go to LA and try it again!
I’m sure something could be worked out. I’ll get on the horn and see what’s going on.

Heloise, we’d love for you to be able to make it! Thomas and I can definitely be there by 7:00PM. I don’t see why we can’t get started at 7:00, and those who can’t make it until later can just show up whenever they can and join us mid-stream, so to speak. The more the merrier, I say!

Johnny, Thomas has been camping in Sardinia so he hasn’t seen this thread since you posted your request. He just got home tonight (midnight his time) and I’m sure he’ll be checking this thread soon and be able to give you an answer.

It doesn’t have its own lot, and street parking is limited to say the least. There are, OTOH, a bajillion and a half lots on 4th street (well, about 4 lots there), which is the street you’ll find yourself on if you take the 4th street exit (duh). There are another bajillion and a half lots (read: 2 or 3) on 2nd street. Prices are as posted above.
