Labor day weekend in Philly - what to do/see?

So the girlfriend and I are going to spend Labor Day weekend in Philadelphia (yeah, I know, first prize is a whole week in Philadelphia… you try to find a place within reasonable driving distance of NYC on the Wednesday before Labor Day).

It’s been two decades since I was a student in Philly, so I really don’t know the city that well.

Anyone have any recommendations of things to do or see? The Art Museum is a must do, and I’ll probably want to meandar over to West Philly to see what’s become of the Penn Campus. What else should we do? The touristy Old City stuff? Is the Aquarium in Camden worth doing?

If it helps, we’re not the clubbing/nightlife types… good food, art, history, tend more toward our interests. And we’ll be staying at Penn’s Landing.

The Fringe Festival starts this weekend.

Old City is nice for wandering around – check out Ben Franklin’s house on Market between 3rd and 4th – the Book Trader is no longer on South Street, it’s on 2nd just above Market. Lots of good restaurants in that area.

Half-price tickets for some events available here.

eastern state penn is interesting and many restaurants in the area.

constitution center is new and worth seeing.

head house square has artist venders.

things are changing on the west side. big glass towers are being built over there.
