This is a pretty self-explanatory thread. I’m not restricting it to just the women Dopers, of course, so if any guys want to chime in feel free to do so.
The oft-quoted (but dubiously accurate) statistic that men apparently have a sexual thought every seven seconds lends itself to the discussion about whether women’s minds are similarly as sexual. Obviously, this dovetails into the other old saying that “men think about sex dozens of times per day; women think about sex once per day.”
I’ve made similar threads in the past, but it’s been quite a while since I last broached this topic on the boards. Just curious to see the responses.
2ManyTacos, you should be aware that there are scientific techniques designed for (roughly) estimating the frequency of particular types of thought. Their reliability is highly questionable, but one lesson emerges clearly from their use: people’s subjective estimates of such things (such as are being elicited in this thread) are completely unreliable, and quite worthless.* The only honest and sensible answer is “Sometimes I think about sex, but I have no idea how often.”

*Of course, the “every seven seconds” figure is even more worthless than that, having probably simply been pulled out of some journalist’s ass.
That last sentence was about my answer before opening the thread - probably something you might define as “often” but it’s not like I keep track, and it varies by week/day/during the course of a day.
for me it really varies with hormones. If I find myself noticing every attractive man throughout the day (and finding more men attractive) and having frequent sexual thoughts it’s a sure sign I’m ovulating. I’ve actually kept records to track this kind of thing. That is two days a month max.
So what counts as “frequent” in that scenario? Probably more than 3 times in an hour? Definitely not rising to the level that we need to get seconds involved.
On a non ovulating day…less than once every two hours?
The big killer of desire for me is tiredness. Sex can never compete with sleep if sleep is what I need.
There have been a few occasions where I’ve had all night, all weekend sex marathons. By the end of these sessions, I’m left feeling completely drained. The funny thing is though, the next day at work it wont be until late in the afternoon when it dawns on me: “Hey, I’ve gone all day with out thinking about sex! This is so liberating!”
Even more funny is I think Jerry Seinfeld did an episode on this very thing.
Almost never, and when I do it seems to coincide with PMS. I never, ever look at people and get sexual thoughts, like, “Damn I sure would like to be impaled by that guy!”
