LADope 2003 Wrap-Up

Bummed that I missed it.

However, I had car problems on Friday and wouldn’t have been able to come anyway.

Tell me about coffee crisp, Scout.

Yum.

It’s a chocolate candy bar with wafer inside (so it’s crispy). It’s got a little bit of a coffee flavor, though not much.

I’d never heard of it until a year or two ago, when several Canadians at work were talking about it, and how you can’t get it here. They said that every time they go back home they make sure to buy some to bring back, mostly from people rabid for it.

So I had one about a year ago when a VERY nice coworker brought one back for me. And I’ve never seen one since. Until Saturday night.

It’s not like it’s the best candy in the world, it’s just that it’s not sold here. So it becomes exotic and sought after. Mmmm.

At least we got to ride it twice in a row.

Although I had more fun riding the cannon, truth be told.

I had fun riding the cannon, too. And I’ll never forget how much fun some people (myself included) had staring at the coin donation “attraction” at the Page Museum. And justplainbryan’s roll down the grassy hill outside. Look out below!

It certainly was nice to see everyone again, and to meet some new people, too. I look forward to the next time.

I had a good time. Thanks Rico and cadolphin for planning this. The restaurant was a good choice.

The pinball game I played was “South Park” and the thing swore at me and every now and then in the middle of the game the flippers (or whatever you call the thingys you use to keep the ball in play) would stop working. That meant that I had to yell at it. It was fun.

I enjoyed seeing those I had already met as well as meeting some new dopers.

Next year, I’ll muster up the courage and skill (and pixie sticks) for Dance Dance Revolution!

Dansu!!!

I thought this was very interesting, too. Not the coin donation attraction, but the number of people who were standing around it, watching coins roll. Probably the most profitable exhibit in the place.

Indeed, it was a great time! Thanks so much for all the work in planning it, cadolphin and Rico. Next time we’ll have to come for all the festivities – sounds like you guys had a blast at the Tar Pits. Let’s do it again real soon!

David Simmons just sent us a whole bunch of pictures as well, I’ll try to have them up on the website by tonight.

As they say in the biz, STAY TUNED for further details!

Damn! I so wanted to be there, but some personal matters made it impossible. Glad you guys had a good time! Plan another one…SOON!

OK - David Simmons’ pictures are now linked to the main site LA Dope 2003.

scroll down until you see the link to Page 2 of the pictures - there are some very good pictures in there!

Thank you David and Wilma!

You think you had trouble? We came down the Santa Monica Freeway, I missed the Ocean Ave. turnoff and got onto the Beach Pallisade. There are no connecting streets back to Ocean until you get way west of downtown. We got up into the hilly street tangle to the west and wandered around, trying to move back to the east. We finally found a street that was identified on our map and made our way Sunset Blvd. thence to Ocean and finally to Ye Olde etc. And we found that only Ruffian had beaten us there.
