I bought a Samsung laptop today. The display model trackpad behaved like my previous laptop’s trackpad did, in that the right and bottom of the pad were for “scrolling” in the way that the scroll wheel on a mouse functions, or scrolling from left to right. I bought this particular model specifically because of that functionality.
Out of the box, the same laptop I played with in the store does not appear to have that functionality. The entire trackpad surface is for controlling the pointer, and there is no “scrolling” function. The “mouse” settings in control panel do not have any option that appears to enable this function.
The model is Samsung RV520, running Windows 7. I confirmed the box model number matched the display model number before purchasing this laptop, so I know there must be some way to enable scrolling with the track pad, but I’m stumped. Can anyone help me figure out what I’m missing?
If it’s not in the control panel settings, then there’s probably a program that has to be running in the task bar. You might take a look through the Start menu to see if you can find something related to the mouse/trackpad. Other then that, make sure you run Windows update a handful of times to get all the drivers fully up to date. It might happen with that.
Was the display model running Win7?
So the old scroll on the side is still around? I thought everyone had moved on to two finger scrolling. Even my 2009-purchased netbook had it.
Since your question is answered, OP, I’ll offer a little advice. If I were you, I’d check and see if that option is also available. I find it’s more intuitive. If you don’t like it, you can always go back.
