Large text on SDMB

Go to view then zoom, then check the “zoom text only” option. While that’s checked, all zooming methods zoom the text only.

I just tried it and it enlarged the whole page when I used the wheel, but did indeed just enlarge the text when I used command-+ and -.

I have a Mac, which may make a difference.

O. K. Which button did you accidentally push this time?

Been there, done that. If you zoom in too far, you still have to side scroll. IE lets you override the font size specified by the web page, which is good for me on my laptop monitor if I don’t want to sit 2 feet away to read small font. If Firefox lets you do that, I can’t find it.

I missed the edit, but wanted to add that I realize I usually don’t have to zoom in that far, but with IE I don’t have to zoom at all.

I’m not having that issue on version 3.6.13.

Mine is 3.6. I don’t really care enough to update it to a sub-sub version.

Well, shit. I just lean forward when the print is small, and lean back when it’s too big. Sorry if that’s too much trouble for all you Yankees!

3.6.13 is just the latest version of 3.6. If you haven’t shut off automatic updates, that’s the one you have. If you have, all you have to do is choose “Check for updates” in the Help menu. Click a few buttons, and your updated to the latest version.

If you are still running into problems with text zoom mode, it’s likely the website’s fault.

Also, you may want to try the addon NoSquint, which will not only let you fine tune your magnification settings, but let you do it on a per page basis as well.

Yes, and that’s why I use IE’s built in compatibility mode and overrirde font settings. Again, if Firefox has this it is well hidden.

Just FYI, another way to reset the text size for a specific page (in Firefox) is go to View > Zoom > Reset.

That’s the same thing as CTRL + 0 but if you keep forgetting the key combo, it’s useful. Also, might as well take a look at the View menu anyway so you can see the various options therein.

I have a wireless keyboard & mouse and often end up reading/writing from bed at night. Zooming is a godsend! I go back and forth from IE to FF all the time and they both have strengths / minuses regarding how their zoom works. F’rex, I like that FF remembers page settings for specific pages and doesn’t assume that if I need one page zoomed, all pages should have giant text.

OTOH, sometimes I do want all pages zoomed, such as when I’m surfing in bed. So it’s a bit of a pain to have to zoom 'em all individually every time I go to a different site. That’s when I switch to IE.

The problem with large text is that it makes your laptop heavier.

Nah, if you notice, there’s also a lot of whitespace with it, which is lighter, so it evens out.

If there were no kerning, true enough.
