For some reason, he does have his own IMDB entry.
Because he paid the fee, I’m guessing?
The comedians this season are a lot more famous and experienced. Some have been on tv shows and one has been 28 yrs standup. It must be tough out there.
The old moderator for battlebots was there. Bill Dwyer.
Definitely some well-known people this time around. I was happy to see Doug Benson from VH1’s “Best Week Ever.” That guy is hilarious.
A couple of good choices – and a couple of “well, whadja expect?” ones. After all, what would Last Comic Standing be without a big sassy black woman?
(Wonder if we’ll have any ironing-obssessed comics this season?)
I thought they might throw Wild Willy into the house just for fun.
The format of last night’s semi-final wasn’t very good. A three minute routine edited down to about a minute just doesn’t allow anyone to stand out. I’d like to have seen more of the interviews between the “judges” and the comics.
I figure they gave us anything from there that was actually funny – like CP guy’s “What else would I do, be a traffic cop?” which made me laugh.
I thought the bald guy was funny, but he didn’t make it. What was his name?
I think Josh Blue - the guy with cerebral palsy - was hysterical. I’m hoping he wins.
“I think at this point, I should inform you that you’re all going to hell for laughing at me.”
I didn’t think he was that funny in his initial talent scout audition, but I loved him last night.
I’m still kind of going :dubious: over April Macie being chosen - I just didn’t think she was funny at ALL. It reminded me of standard, safe stand-up that I’ve heard a ton of other comics, male and female, do. Boring and predictable.
E.
I think the comics are about as funny as a helicopter crashing into an orphanage. April Macie–not funny. The fat black chick–not funny–but fits a necessary stereotype for house dynamics.
Damn. These are some seriously not funny comics.
What the heck?
They couldn’t have picked a worse twelve finalists. Out of the twelve they picked I think I ilke 1 or 2 of them, tops. Leave it to NBC to make a show about stand up comedy not funny.
Yeah, I was expecting the “twist” to be – you guys on stage, go home – we’re gonna use the guys still waiting offstage.
If this airs next summer, I’m not going to watch the first few episodes. They didn’t pick the funniest people! I started part-way through the second season, and I think that was better since I didn’t have as much to compare the chosen to.
Okay, I’m going to be the brat who says it: does Josh Blue remind anyone else of Screech? A whole lot?
I honestly thought that might be it. My theory expands on what KidCharlemagne said. The chosen all sort of fit into stereotypes the producers think they need…except that most aren’t funny.
Yeah he does, except Josh Blue is funny and better looking. He’s one of the two I like. The other, incidentally, is Joey Gay (I can’t help it, one of the sets really pleasantly surprised me, and it stuck with me).
I like the same 2 that you like. We were hoping and praying that the twist was that the ones they chose would go home ('cept for Josh and Joey), but no.
Could it be more obvious that they’re playing the “how different can they be from one another” card?
Disabled guy? Check.
Fat hispanic guy? Check.
Sassy black woman? Check.
Screechy (short) woman? Unfortunately, yes.
Really tall, really skinny woman? Yeah.
Pregnant (and most definitely UNfunny) woman? Got 'er.
Older guy? Yup.
Older woman who can’t stop making jokes about her age? Sigh, yes.
Sure, it wouldn’t be great if they had picked the 4 guys who were virtually indistinguishable from one another, but come on. I don’t even know how some of these people made it as far as they did.
Plus, WTF, they gave the audience favorite award to the fat Hispanic guy? Who made jokes about doughnuts? :dubious:
But it wasn’t only about doughnuts. It was about doughnuts and cops!
A lot of the comics backstage looked pissed. And they had every right. They didn’t choose Doug Benson, even though his set killed. I think their goal is to choose weird and wacky so the house challenges will be more outrageous. But then why didn’t they choose the duct tape girl? Part of me is hoping that they purposely edited the funny out of the performances so they can use them later in the season. But I have a sneaking suspicion that many of them are simply unfunny.
As for Dat Phan, he did appear in a Kim Basinger movie. He did a set about it that killed and still has me chuckling today… “You call me on the Pey Phone! Waste my time!” I haven’t seen anything from John Heffron or Alonzo Bodden, the other winners.
