Late Lament

17 years ago, on a whim, I played The Moody Blues’ Nights In White Satin on college radio & cut in the next song before Late Lament. This was at 1:30 am on a Tuesday night (or morning, if you prefer). In Walla Walla, WA (really).

We had 4 phone lines in the radio station. All 4 lit up. All 4 were “WTF” calls. Stunned, I re-played *Nights * with the Late lament. And got completely hooked on The Moodys. Their music changed my life.

Why in the hell were that many people listening to college radio in a town that small that late at night?

I’ve been to Walla Walla, so I can answer this.

Because there is nothing else to do in Walla Walla at 1:30 in the morning. Or, for that matter, 1:30 pm. Or any other time, if you want to know the truth.
Great sweet onions, though.

Once or twice, I’ve heard Pink Floyd’s Brain Damage on the radio, without being followed by Eclipse. I wanted to reach out and slap the disc jockey silly.
