Last week my sister told me she’d give me my Christmas presents when I go see her in mid-March. She’s got the presents, it’s just that since she now works six days a week in a small town she doesn’t have the time to mail them. What’s the latest you’ve gotten delayed Christmas or birthday presents?
I’m not sure what the latest I’ve gotten a present in (my cousin and I haven’t exchanged Christmas 2007 gifts yet and my aunt has a birthday present for me [my bday is Dec 01]), but I have a Russian triptych style Frieda Kahlo icon I bought for a friend’s graduation two years ago that I haven’t given her yet. I was waiting until I saw her in person and I haven’t, and I’ve thought of just sending it but upon her request I’m saving it (she doesn’t know what it is and is a Kahlo nut).
Correction to above: I bought that icon in Albuquerque during a conference and that was in March 2005, so in a couple of weeks I’ll have had it 3 years.
A year and a half. With a nice apology.
We’ve had several cases of presents getting lost, and only found again when we started hiding the presents for next year.
I’ll let you know when it happens. My SO and I decided to give ourselves a joint present for christmas 06, our anniversary 07 (june) and christmas 07. We have yet to actually get around to it.
5 months after my birthday. The boy was just a big procrastinator. But the wait was definitely worth it.
Around 15 months. Late graduation present.
I exchange birthday presents with a friend. I always give him his on or before his birthday. Mine comes months later - and in one case 3 years after. He actually had bought it before, but wanted to build a frame for it.
I’m still awaiting a graduation gift from one of mom’s cousins. I graduated in December '06; this cousin RSVP’d my invitation and stated that while she and her family couldn’t make it, I would be getting my gift in the mail “soon”. It doesn’t bother me that much, but my mom is absolutely disgusted with this cousin.
My best friend is horrible about this. Most gifts are a minimum of six months late, at which point I’ve generally lost interest in whatever it was (or more likely, didn’t ever want it). I think the worst was my 16th birthday gift. I got it sometime around my 18th birthday.
We got married Januray 5th and there are still a few gifts that people claim they are sending and haven’t.
And I never got my SDMB Secret Santa gift from 2007, but I’ve given up hope on that one
On two occassions I got June Birthday gifts at Christmas. Both times from my sister. She was sufficiently embarrassed by it to mollify me.
I still have the baby quilt I made for a great-grandson who was born in January 2006.
They only live 8 miles away, but we can’t seem to coordinate a visit.
I still haven’t given my wife her Christmas present for last year. She’s said what she wants and I’ve said I’ll get it, it just hasn’t been released yet.
Three and a half years.
One friend of mine is regularly late with presents–up to four months late, in some cases. She comes from a family of procrastinators, but there is more to the story. She is also a compulsive hoarder and just recently admitted that when she buys gifts for others, she often gets emotionally attached to the gifts and does not want to give them up. So they sit in the foyer collecting dust until she finally forces herself to take them out and deliver them.
