Law & Order: LA, the first couple of minutes

I watched the first minute, then allowed myself to be distracted/barely watching for about 20 minutes, then I just hit the STOP key and deleted it. Later, I removed it from the “record season” category.

I just had no interest in it. It didn’t feel much like Law & Order.

I turned to my wife half an hour into it and suggested it’s going to be like Love Boat or Fantasy Island where we get to spot the celebrity. The other L&O and CSI have been fodder for the occasional “Hey, it’s…” before, but I suspect that (if we watch this) I’ll spend the time pointing out the actors I haven’t seen recently.

I zoned out about halfway through it. Not a good pilot at all.

I was just watching this pretty ridiculous old thriller on TV last night and about to turn it off when I was that the two cop partners were Steven Hill (Adam from the Original L&O) and Morgan Freeman. I watched it to the end – but it still sucked.

Bravo also showed the premiere of The Event, which has gotten good buzz. I think it’s a different deal. What they’re doing here is trying to attract more attention for a new show, and Bravo is owned by NBC. This is not like when you see a L&O rerun on TNT or USA - those shows are in syndication. The standard syndication deal requires that the show have 100 episodes before a cable network will pick it up.

100 episodes isn’t really a demand but an accepted standard abitrary number. You can syndicate anything you want, but that is usually the magic number. And yes, this is a show where the first run rights are owned by NBC/Universal so since they own Bravo they put it in the lineup on that channel.
