Law & Order SVU taping question

I have a friend who is a major L&O SVU fan and would love to watch a taping of some scene of the show in NY.

How can I find out in advance (like 2-3 days) of where they will be taping so I can surprise my new friend with a trip there.

She is a possible romantic interest of mine and doing something like this would be a great surprise for her

Episode fade in:

[weeping woman, young, attractive, stumbles into the precinct]

Benson: Miss? What’s wrong?
Woman: He said [sob]… he’d take me to a taping of my favourite show. And then he… then he…
Tutuola: Now, that ain’t right. From the ‘hood. Know what I’m sayin’?
Stabler: [eyes narrow] Is this another scam? We’ve seen it before.
Munch: Hey, I’m got as much distrust as the next guy, but I think you’re wound tighter than Hendrix’s E string.
Cragen: [snaps] Oh, that is just great. Does anyone have anything positive to contribute?
Novak: Call me when you have some evidence.

insert: donk donk

You forgot the most important part!!

Lenny could have done all that with one line.

My MO was going to take her into NY on a different pretext and then “stumble” on the taping and really make her day.

Well, now that I’ve gotten over being tickled by the idea of trying to manipulate a woman into coming across by taking her to a taping of, of all shows, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, my useful suggestion would be to browse through the website of The City of New York Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting which hands out the necessary shooting permits and whatnot. You could try phoning them directly, but I’m honestly not sure if they’ll give out shooting schedules, out of concern of a deranged fan seeking to disrupt production and/or pose a risk to the actors.

Good luck, chum-chum.

Hey who said anything about manipulating anyone. I know I have no hope with her because she is already calling me one of her best friends and when that happens it’s the death kneel for any chance of having a romantic relationship. With that said (or typed) We were having a conversation about a dream date after reading over entries from her old freshman yearbook and she said her dream date would be visiting a taping of SVU. If there is anything I like to do for my friends it’s to suprise them with things they like when they are least expecting it.

Many years later …

“Grandpa, tell me about your first date with Grandma!”
“Well, Bobby, I thought the perfect setting would be a grimy alley where a young girl was covered in stage blood pretending to have been brutally raped and mutilated. And I was right! Your grandmother swooned into my arms as soon as she saw it all.”

Keep in mind that an on-location production like SVU is going to arrange to close off as much real estate as is necessary to keep everyone off set who doesn’t belong there, so even if you do find out where they are taping, the chance of actually seeing anything as a “casual” passerby are virtually nil. Anyone you see wanderoing through a shot is a paid background performer (which is why you never see them flashing the peace sign and mouthing “Hi Mom” at the camera).

So if you want to get up close, why not be a background actor in the show? It doesn’t take much effort, ad you don’t need any serious acting cred to do background in crowd scene.

A little online research hs revealed to me that the person who handles extras for SVU is David M. Waldron of

Grant Wilfley Casting in NY. His IMDB page says he’s a Jersey boy, like yourself.

As background, you don’t really get to pick and choose which shows you get to be on, necessarily, but it’s the closest you’ll get to the stars, even if you’re not allowed to look at them or talk to them.
