I was just told today that I’m out of a job. The company that I work for closed their doors at noon, June 16th. This company gave me a total of 4 hours notice.
A woman called me at 1:30pm Central time and told me that the web-center would be closing it’s doors, and regrettably, this would mean the termination of my position. (Let me terminate this, you bitch!) I have been working for this company since they opened their webcenter in November, 1999. It has only been open a total of 7 months! And now they tell us that they’re closing up shop?? Those fuckers are just wanting to shift all of their business over to the India webcenters so that they don’t have to pay us the $9.50/hr, plus paying for our medical benefits! Even though we’re more productive, and the quality of work is better from our center! They told us that themselves not 2 weeks ago!!
I wish like hell that I could name names of this company, but I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do that here. I’d like everyone in the world to know what fuckers these people are!
More American’s jobs being shipped overseas because of the lower overhead there. Our cost of living is higher, our pay scale is higher… But our quality in customer service was the best they had. They don’t care. Bottom line is all that counts.
Just too bad that the company that dumped us also has one of the worst reputations for customer service and Internet Access service. Things will go quickly downhill from here for them. I know it will, as I’ve been hearing the complaints for the last 7 months.
This is common in many businesses, particularly in sports. It’s called “the kiss of death”. If I ever hear that my department is doing an outstanding job, I go home and make sure my resume is fully tricked out, just in case.

My guess is that the company you work for is a public company, but maybe not. But, you know what? They don’t care about you and your job. A company, especially a public one, has one goal…keeping the shareholders happy. Lower costs, even at the expense of quality customer service does just that. To whoever makes the decision, you are not a person, you are a number on an expense sheet. I know that it sucks, big time, but if you owned the business you’d probably be more interested in the bottom line than keeping people employed.
Anyway, if you have the tech. background the job market is still hungry for people with your skills. Get drunk tonight, update your resume tomorrow and check the classified ads on Sunday. Monday you’ll be ready to find a better job.

Every company tries this “overseas outsourcing solution.” The shit has never worked. Their fuckin’ loss. You’ll have a new job in 2 days IMHO. Probably paying more with less bullshit.

I know the feeling. The exact same thing happened to me 2 years ago. However, we found out that not only were we not getting a paycheck for the last 2 weeks we worked, we found out that our 2 prior paychecks which we had already deposited and spent were taken back out of our bank accounts. 6 weeks of work without pay.
So yes, I know it sucks…but keep your chin up. Now you can file for unemployment and take the summer off!
You know the funniest thing about this whole fiasco? The company that we were hired by had just signed a contract with MSN and Gateway for us to handle a good chunk of their customer service too! Now MSN and Gateway have to rely on whatever people they have “tried” to train in India! Needless to say, the online customer service chat will be coming from people who most likely don’t understand what the hell the customers are talking about! English is not the most spoken language in the world, no matter how much we Americans might like to think so!
I’m still in shock over this right now, I’m sick to my stomach over losing the best job I’ve ever had. Not because of the money, but because I was one of the few people who could actually say that I liked doing customer service. I like solving problems for other people, and helping them find things for themselves!

But I want to warn everyone. The nations largest “loss prevention” company is advising companies that recieve a 2 week notce from an employee-- to terminate that employee immediately, with NO notice. So, before you do “the right thing”- think, are THEY gonna do right by YOU?
