Lay's Cappuccino Chips -- anyone?

My latest trip to CVS startled me with the sight of these (and Crest Mint Chocolate, and Lime and Spearmint toothpastes, but I digress). Has anyone had the nerve or inclination to try them?

My son picked up a bag for me to try during our family Dr. Who get-together on Saturday. My Beloved and I thought they were quite nice-not too salty, with a pleasant mocha coffee flavor that didn’t overpower.

Yes; I think there might be another thread for these (and the other “contest” flavors), as well.

My take: the taste like somebody dumped a packet of International House instant “cappucino” in a bag of chips. It’s not actively horrible, but it’s not a good fit. Lays potato chips and cheap sweetened flavored coffee just puts me in mind of being stuck in a gas station.

They are pretty vile. Picked them up for completeness sake as we had tried the other three… The full bag (less half a dozen or so for those that have tried them) remains in the pantry.

I don’t know how long these have been out but the local grocery store already had these in the bargain bin.

And the Cappuccino is the flavor I haven’t tried yet but I have a bag at home. Sounds like they may be going in the trash as, except for the replies above, I’ve not heard one good thing about them.

^^This.

You couldn’t have said it better. I think I described them to my wife as “You know that instant cappucino powder stuff we have in the cupboard? They taste like regular chips with a dusting of that.”

The tavern/restaurant I frequent has been trying these ‘contest’ flavors and they had the Cappuccino ones last week. I’m biased because I don’t like coffee, so I found them so foul I only took a tiny bite of one chip and still had to spit it out. Tasted, well, like coffee tastes to me- like a boiled ashtray…

They sound frightful, but I doubt anything can surpass the gag-reflex triggering awfulness of the chicken and waffle flavored chips.

Yeah, I’ve heard some pretty strong reactions to those. I personally found those to be more cloying than terrible. Too much salty chicken flavor and a sort of phony generic maple syrup flavor.

Those made me say, “these are poorly planned, but I can imagine a palatable version of this.” The cappuccino…I just don’t see a universe where that’s a good idea. Chicken and waffles are often served with hash browns or fries. I can’t recall the last time I was given a potato choice as a side with my coffee.

I was advised by the person who handed me the bag to “give it five chips. You won’t like the first one, but by the fifth you might come around.”

An accurate prediction, as it turned out. I was definitely not a fan after the first chip, but it only took three or four before I began thinking, “You know, these aren’t bad at all.”

I had to make myself stop eating them so I’d have room for dinner…

Unlike most of the people on this thread, I actually liked them. Apparently, so does my dad - we bought a small bag of the cappucino chips and two small bags of the wasabi chips, and when we got home from the pharmacy where we bought them, he disappeared and left me only one bag of the wasabi chips. Never saw the rest again.

I saw them in the grocery store and immediately thought of this Thread started by me two years ago when I discovered I do not like the combination of coffee and potato chips.

Tried them on game night. They were not as terrible as I expected, which is the best thing I can say. Other reactions in the room ranged from awful to fucking godawful. Most of the bag went into the trash.

My wife sent me a link to Poutine with Bacon flavoured Lays. Now that I know that they exist somewhere in the world, my life feels incomplete.
