I have a 37" Toshiba Regza (?) HDTV in my basement. Apparently my 3 year old son struck the screen with a plastic bat the other day. There is now a small, almost triangular shaped yellow spot to the left of center on the screen.
When I first noticed it, it looked like a stain on the outside of the screen, but it isn’t. It’s internal.
I googled around a bit but didn’t get any definitive answers. Is there anything I can do to fix this short of sending it in to Toshiba or buying a new TV?
It’s not a big deal I guess, but the spot is certainly distracting, especially against a white or light colored background. You just can’t help but zero in on it with your eyes.
Anyone? Bueller? Is this repairable or do I just have to deal?
You’re boned. The good news is that IME, your eyes begin to tune out such annoyances sooner or later. When I first started wearing glasses, I couldn’t help but notice the rims clearly visible in my periphery, but after a short time (a week or two?) I stopped noticing.
I appreciate the reply, but I’m not sure it’s the same thing. I’m not likely to develop tunnel vision to the point where the damaged spot becomes unnoticeable.
It’s like ye olde hair on the projector screen…it’s miniscule, but it’s there and impossible to ignore.
It really is. It takes longer than the time it takes to watch a feature film, but if you watched movies on that hair infested projector for a couple weeks, you’d stop noticing the hair unless you specifically thought about it. Most of your senses are designed to tune out static elements otherwise you’d be overwhelmed by extraneous sensory data such as the feeling of clothing on your skin, the scent of your own perfume or cologne or the hum of the refrigerator.
