A thrift store is (usually) second-hand goods. A discount store is usually one selling overages pulled from other stores, out of season stock and the like. Its merchandise is new.
The man might well have been ignorant, but since people like that make a big deal about lying being a sin (thou shalt not bear false witness), it was a perfect opening to make the point that he was also a hypocrite. Might have been over the top, but you take the wedges where you can, yeh?

And yes, the store I work at sells new merchandise and very good items. We hve the best buyers on the planet and get great stuff.

And I enjoy going off on telling a misogynistic, fundamentalist, anti-choice, holier-than-thou, self-righteous, religious freak who enjoys insulting, denigrating, and terrorizing women who are trying to get basic healthcare where he can go and where he can stick his fucking picket sign. His sign says EVERYTHING HITLER DID IN GERMANY WAS LEGAL. Never mind that Hitler did not approve of abortion and that Mr. Hitler (as I call him) believes a lot of the same things that Hitler (who was a Christian) did.
