Legends of Tomorrow Season 3

Damm, Ray’s Mom was hot, took me right back to the eighties. I think Caity Lotz should have chosen a look other than Madonna. Rory stealing the halloween candy had me in stitches.

This show is Doctor who done right.

Another Spielberg tribute - Nate polishing the DeLorean.

This is a time machine.”

“Billy Jo-El?”

Almost as good as Nate showing up as animal control, looking for a cougar ,lol.

Amaya, Ray’s mom, Nate seems to like the older ladies.

I thought that was a Delorean. Got a kick out of the prominently displayed walkie-talkie - a reference to the editing out of the guns in “ET”?

Martin Stein lives on a time-traveling spaceship, fought aliens and zombies, seen magic in action, but he doesn’t think vampires are real?

Damien Dahrk returns for another shot at Sara Lance. I think this is the writers acknowledging that he was really, really wasted on Arrow. The question is, can he carry the season without two or three other villains with which to chew scenery?

Attention Flash writers: This is how you portray strong women kicking ass and being heroes. Show, don’t tell. None of this hashtag nonsense. Granted, it also helps that they have a time machine and they can just go and visit real Amazons.

This show is such a joy to watch. The old-style black and white opening titles. Sara looking especially fine in dolled up in glamorous Hollywood makeup. A literal war erupting between Hollywood studios. Hedy Lamarr! Themyscira!!! The best part, of course, was Firestorm’s Freaky Friday situation. Franz Drameh did a spot on Victor Garber impression.

We must’ve been watching different versions. I thought the Martin Stein impersonation was pretty weak, though the Freaky Friday stuff was lots of fun. Also, while I like Neil McDonough’s Damien Darhk, too soon. I understand if you don’t keep McDonough in play, he’ll probably find other work and be unavailable, but Darhk has been over-exposed.

Also, how old is Stein supposed to be? Hedy Lamarr was a great beauty in her day, but my guess is that she would be at least 35 years older than Martin Stein.

Anyone else think the head gear that lead to the brain swap was a Weird Science call-out?

That would be the age difference between her and Victor Garber, so probably about that. But Stein seems like he’d go for the classics.

They really seem to be dialing back Sarah’s sexuality this season… You’d think Helen of Troy, a woman so preternaturally beautiful she started an actual shooting war between movie studios would at least turn her head, even if she didn’t get dragged around by her genitals like the guys did at a couple points.

I thought of that myself, but apparently this Helen’s effect is only on men - or else the solution of dropping her off on Paradise Island would have been no solution at all.

Coming up, Gorilla Grodd! This should be good.

That doesn’t necessarily argue against it…she might not get the Amazons forming up battle lines, but I’d expect her to be very popular. The effect doesn’t seem to be any form of mind control, but rather just being Really (Possibly Literally) Goddamned Hot, and thereby triggering extreme versions of some of the more unhealthy cultural traits in the female-attracted men she interacts with, and presumably this is one of the takes on the Amazons which goes with ‘warriors, but only for peace’, so the effect wouldn’t be the same.

nm - I see Kamino Neko already made the point wrt Sarah…

Sara did flirt with Helen of Troy, but only to the extent she flirted with any other female (or male) she’s attracted to. The latter’s effect on men, however, was quite literally preternatural. Helen of Troy was supposed to be the daughter of Zeus, so there was probably something mystical going on there.

That makes sense - thanks.

Nah, I was just assuming that Stein is ~65. Nothing wrong with the classics, but picking someone 35 years older than yourself as one’s fantasy ‘freebie’? Figuring Stein did that when he was about 25, Hedy Lamarr would have been 60. That’s…off, even for Professor Stein.

I figured that Stein thought it would never happen, so he picked someone he truly admired.

On rewatch, I finally got that Sara went to abduct/rescue Helen driving a horse trailer, with Amaya and Zara hidden inside. Because, you know, horses and Trojans.

Hence the crack about “Have people gotten smarter in 3000 years?”
