Legends of Tomorrow Season 6

This was such a great episode. Great cliffhanger. I didn’t realize that the season finale is next week. Those eggs are going to play a significant part in the finale, aren’t they?

If you do just a little research on the crazy biology of mushrooms, you too would think that they’re aliens. And it turns out that they’re protecting the Earth from alien invasion.

Rings of mushrooms are also associated with magical creatures (which I’m kind of surprised that Constantine didn’t mention)

Well, to be fair, he is a little distracted by his magic addiction.

I’m curious how the eggs are gonna play into the finale as well.

Meh. I enjoy Legends of Tomorrow for the gonzo humor. I mean, I also appreciate genuine drama mixed in with that, but this episode just didn’t bring the funny, and without that, frankly I find the drama kind of bland.

And this isn’t really a complaint but an observation, but it’s kind of amazing how far the FX in the CW/DC shows are behind the FX in the D+/MCU shows. I’ve gotten used to the fact that the Waverider is obviously CGI (it’s a timeship, so maybe that’s just how they look to us mere mortals trapped in linear time), but that magic mushroom* effect seemed like they had regressed to the distractingly bad CGI effects of a few seasons ago. And, yeah, I get it, the D+/MCU shows are mini-series with far fewer episodes and Disney money - like I said, not a complaint so much as an observation.

*Not only did Constantine not mention the association of mushroom rings with faerie rings, likely because the writers were unaware of it, they didn’t even do anything with the obvious magic mushroom reference. This episode actually seemed to be actively going out of its way to avoid jokes.

Maybe the Network said no to the drug jokes.

Although thinking about it now I’m sure they’ve done drug jokes before. Especially in the episode with the unicorn at the hippie woodstcok.

I mean…Behrad is a straight up stoner. They’re not at all subtle about his drug use - it’s been an explicit plot point. And, yeah, there’s a difference between marijuana and 'shrooms, but I’m having trouble imagining a Standards and Practices division clearing all the drug humor involving Behrad but objecting to a magic mushroom joke.

The best part of this episode was in the first 5 minutes -

“ahhh - GHOST!”

Well, Instagram and/or Facebook. And I thought it was pretty well done - they established that Kayla would never answer a call from Gary and that there was no way to know how long it would take for her to see it and show up.

S06E15 The Fungus Among Us

SEASON FINALE - When Sara realizes Bishop’s (guest star Raffi Barsoumian) plan, Ava convinces Sara to allow the Legends to make exception to the rules to help fight back. Behrad comes up with an interesting plan, that allows Sara to connect with an old friend. Meanwhile, amidst a battle Sara and Ava make an important decision but need the help of the team to pull it off.

So they were all saved by “the power of Love” with the help from the magic mushroom? Sounds like the writers were on a bit of the magic mushrooms themselves.

And hey John’s back!..and he’s gone again.

At least the baby necrian octopi were cute.

Legends still did it better than The Flash, by busting it out when it really mattered rather than for every two-bit alien. Also, the actual Big Bad was defeated not by the Power of Love but by Mick and Kayla’s babies. I knew those eggs would play a role in the finale.

And so we bid goodbye to Mick Rory, leaving Sara the last of the OG Legends. I didn’t quite believe it back it Season 1 when the producers said that the show wouldn’t have a permanent cast roster. But they’ve actually fulfilled that quite well.

That was quite cliffhanger, blowing up the Waverider. Fortunately, we won’t have long to wait for the resolution. Next season begins Oct 13.

I thought the last episode was meh, but this one was pretty good.

Unlike the last episode, I thought there was enough of their trademark gonzo humor to leaven the drama. I found the scene between Gary and Eva genuinely touching; it was nice seeing Gary being treated as a real person for once, rather than the Odious Comic Relief. I didn’t think the wedding scene worked quite as well, but it was still one of the better Arrowverse weddings.

The alien invasion was just kind of dumb, with aliens with interstellar travel who have to wait until night to come out and don’t have any tech, and just swarm a farmhouse like zombies, and don’t even really try to get in - they just sort of wave through the windows. But that was a relatively small part of the episode, so I’ll live with it.

I’m glad they actually did something with the “magic mushroom”, but still, I seriously can’t understand why we didn’t get a “magic mushroom” joke last episode and pay it off this episode with Sara’s trip. It’s just a really weird humor oversight. The only thing I can think is that it got shot down in the writer’s room as being too obvious. But then they used the “we’re all connected” foreshadowing…

BTW, the key Constantine gives Zari is obviously the key to his house. In the show, so far, it’s just an old manor house. But in the comics,

it’s the House of Mystery, a sentient magical entity with a mysterious agenda. I’m betting that the Legends will discover that they can use the Key to open doors in the House to other times and places, and solve Time Mysteries, including the central mystery of Season 7: who destroyed the Waverider? If not, that’s what should happen - it would make a nice change of pace from the Waverider techno-time travel adventures.

I wonder if the house is also the Burgess mansion from The Sandman which was also owned by Constantine’s ancestor

Young Bishop looked a lot like young Eugene Levy, which amused me.

Would love to be a fly on the wall for their writers meetings. Some seriously deranged stuff on this show.

It kind of looked like the Waverider came and blew up the Waverider. It happened to fast for me to tell if it was the Waverider or not.

Not sure if it was THE waverider, but it was certainly A waverider - right down to the sound fx.

That was certainly my impression.

P.S. Mick had his kids and girlfriend as his Plus 49 for the wedding.
