Holy cow, that’s amazing. That Minas Tirith is a work of art. (Plus, is that figure encased in red supposed to be Denethor? 'Cause that’s hilarious!)
Barad Dur is astonishingly impressive too, wow. If LEGO doesn’t make a LOTR set, they totally should.
The only thing I missed – and this is coming from a definite non-LOTR-expert – is that I’m surprised they didn’t make Lothlorien. That was a pretty setting, with the winding parade of elves around the massive tree.
This is really cool and makes me wish I had a 55 gallon drum full of Lego blocks.
I’m seeing a lot of curved walls (especially Isengard and Minas Tirith). How’d they do those? I’d think that it was just slack in the joins, but it looks like much too small a radius of curvature for that.
And I have to say, the ents at Isengard just might be the best visual depiction of them I’ve seen. It’s easy to say “huge people that look like trees”, but much harder to show it.
Those are freaking awesome!
Darn, I was hoping this was announcing a new LEGO Wii game. Still pretty cool, though.
That does seem to be how they achieve it. Also, a mixture of 1x2 bricks and the teensy 1x1 bricks. Here’s a tutorial using the slack method and here’s one showing the 1x2 + 1x1 construction method in close-up.
Damn, that’s right up there with the Brick Testament as the most impressive LEGO creation I’ve ever seen (and may beat it, hard to judge).
Those are just gorgeous!
That whole website is awash with crazy-amazing Lego models. Personally, I’m most enamoured with three of the churches on the site (I think the Frauenkirche Dresden is my favourite).
