lekatt, JUST SHUT UP!

lekatt is very easy to understand.

He’s obsessed with near-death experiences and has adopted a posting style designed to increase the likelihood that someone will eventually provide him with one.

Despite the fact that he has never had an NDE himself. He had a *dream * about an NDE, and when he woke up, he was [del]batshit crazy[/del] changed forever.

No, he had a heart attack, not a dream. Of course, he didn’t go to the hospital so that any records are nonexistent, but he did do a self-diagnosis.

Bit off topic but Omegaman brought the notion into this thread. And that is that you can be a “bad-ass” and do unspeakable (paraphrasing here) things for as long as you want, but as long as you ‘meet Jesus’ or whatever the lingo is, you’ll be pardoned for all of those wrongdoings.

That just baffles me to no end. For at the risk of Godwinizing this thread, it only follows that a monster such as Hitler could have had a last minute ‘reunion’ with the lord and he got a free out of hell card. Despite the fact that he was one of the biggest mass-murderers/supremacists/bigots in all of history. That makes no sense at all in respect for justice as we humans understand it. Of course, neither does the religious belief that you may be doomed to hell for eternity for finite sins.

Both points, IMHO, are completely out of whack. As in bat-shit crazy really.

“God works in mysterious ways?” Hell’s bells, so do I. Half the time I don’t even know what I’m going to do next. But heathen that I am, you can bet your sweet peppy that I am mostly looking to help in as much as I can to help with the problems we face here during our relatively short lifespans – as is part and parcel of being a secular humanist and yet being an out and out heathen.

Will I go to hell for infinity simply because I try to be a good guy but have no religious beliefs at all and don’t revere sky-pixies? In fact, if I were to meet this Christian “god” we mostly talk about in its many interpretations and forms, I have no doubt I’d rip right into him for all the misery, inequality and cruelty that surrounds us. Free-will is simply too lame an answer to the Problem Of Evil.

Certainly not an ideology I want to be associated with, much less hear believers telling us that we are “made from this god’s (monster) own image.” Insulting as all get-out if you ask me.

Heck might as well go on a killing spree…no god holding me back. And yet, it’s a though that’s never crossed my mind. I respect each and every human life way too much for it to so. So what’s stopping me as opposed to those believers that can think they can wipe the slate clean on their last breath?

I just find all religious belief so nonsensical. Santa for adults, really. But by the same token I’m no “deconverter.” Live and let live. Unless of course a converter tries it on me. No candidate I, in fact, I might make a heathen out of you if you pull that stunt on me…wouldn’t be the first one.

Which tells us what?

You’re forgetting the silent majority that read those posts though, the unsubscribed lurkers. Before I’d say only 1 in 5 who read posts post themselves, now I bet its more like 1 in 20 (thanks to the $15 fee)** Many people believe in a spiritual afterlife, many people believe there is someway to contact them (ghosts, mystics etc.). Hell, why is the horoscope still in every modern newspaper across the planet? Those stupid enough to be outspoken about ‘readers’ deserve to be made to look like fools. You guys seem to think your spinning your wheels in the mud because Lekatt won’t concede. You’re wrong, many people who have never clearly thought about why they believe silly things are now asking themselves when they read those posts. And if they aren’t they’re hopeless anyway. Either way, you’re fighting the good fight and I understand if you’re exhausted and don’t want to anymore, but he keeps giving you guy’s opportunities to be at your best. Your efforts aren’t in vain.

Lekatt is al-Qaeda?

No. You “go” wherever you already are. Jesus teaches that His kingdom is within us. If you, as a good guy, treasure goodness but are pissed off at God, then you are far closer to Him than the Christian who sings His praises but harms others. You will have exactly what you value most. I suspect that many — myself and all other Christians included — will be greatly surprised at what we see when we see Him. He will not be as Falwell and Robinson have described Him. Those of us who have faith based on our experience have seen merely the tiniest of glimpses. Enough that we know we will not be disappointed. You’ll be there. I’m confident of that. You made peace with me, and Jesus said that makes you a child of God.

 I gotta make peace with Lib to get into heavan? I’m pretty sure a lot of people are fucked.

Well RedFury I can remember a time when you and I had a few words that made me think you are kind of a “bad ass” yourself. That’s kind of the thing about being one, is that you attract them. But as I’m sure you know when two meet it can get ugly and I don’t mean kicking somebodys ass and walking away. I don’t know what country your in but you never gave me the impression that you played about and many places outside of the U.S. are not so friendly as they are here. It seems as though you might have mellowed with age and to each his own. I was getting worse as time went on and I know you don’t dig Jesus but be sure He saved me as well others from me. Isn’t that enough for you to live and let live ? I’m not asking for a free pass, my friend. There will be hell to pay when I stand tall before the Man. And stand tall I will.

What’s the point of telling people what a selfish bad-ass you used to be? Is that something the church wants you to do? I would think you’d want to keep that on the Q.T.

They encourage being SAVED BY THE LORD! To get that, you have to fall first.

LeKat is a liar of the worst kind.
He keeps saying things like “all people who have experienced NDEs believe they are a true spiritual experience”.
I have told him several times before that I have also experienced an NDE and am absolutely 100% convinced that it is a biological, physical phenomenon.
I am also not the only one.

I think he should actually be banned for his history of trolling, side-stepping questions and outright lying.

But why do you have to “confess” to people who 1) couldn’t care less, and 2) have nothing to do with your salvation? (BTW, I thought that confession was strictly a catholic thing.) Shouldn’t that be between you and the apparition? And shouldn’t the apparition already know what a bad-ass you are/were? Why tell people? It almost seems like an underlying threat.

<Peter Jackson> “I kick arse for the Lord!” </pj>

You are really missing a major point of confession. Religious confession is not about determining who did what. It is showing that you, the person who did something wrong acknowledges you did something wrong and that you know it was wrong and that you wont do it again. The confession is for the person confessing not the person listening to the confession.

No, I think I understand it exactly as you said it. The confession is for the offender. They only have to acknowledge their wrongs to themselves. I suppose if you’re going to get catholicky about it, you might feel the need to confess to your priest or a nun or something (though that seems like a Big Brother demand to me), but what is with confessing to every Tom, Dick, and Harry you run into?

And there’s an appropriate time and place for such confessions, where it can and does do good, for both the person confessing and the people hearing it. Sometimes that time and place can be in threads here at the SDMB.

However, when someone proclaims such information far and wide, or high and low, or at times where it is not appropriate, it may become as attractive as a 3 year old proudly & loudly proclaiming they “pooped in the potty” during a physics lecture.

Of course, one’s mileage may vary as to when such declarations are inappropriate, but on the whole, the audience here gets less forgiving when they feel the proclamation doesn’t advance the discussion.

Kalhoun and Qadop, OK I see your point. It witnessing disguised as confession. That is pretty annoying.

Dude, he’s telling you Jesus saved him, from being a ‘badass’. How can you know the magnitude of Jesus’s saving power until you have been informed of how un-saved he was prior to the saving thing?

Plus he might be bragging, since he is emphasizing it rather hard - badass is cool, right? Additionally he seems to be using it as an indirect method of ad-homineming RedFury. But either way, there’s a straightforward prostelytizing reason to assert your prior badassosity.
