Leonard Nimoy has died.

Excuse me, I think I have something in my eye…

Is this the time for a colorful metaphor?

I am not ashamed that I have tears in my eyes for Leonard Nimoy. He really has been an icon in my life as well as many others.

Sheldon has his DNA, he can be cloned.

live long and prosper Narab.

He was also the narrator for Civ 4. I was so disappointed that they didn’t bring him back for Civ 5. I can still hear his voice in my head whenever I see the in-game descriptions.

“I have been - and always shall be - your friend.”

Already said, but "Remember…"

And damn.

Live long and prosper

:frowning:

NO!! Sad, sad news. From Star Trek to In Search Of…, he was a big part of my childhood.

:frowning:

My wife and I first bonded playing Star Trek trivia, long before you had to specify Original Series.

When I get home tonight, we’ll sing the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins in his memory.

Reading “Spock is dead” feels like a deep loss. So sad.

This one hurts.

RIP

Beam me up, Scotty.

He played a lot of roles, and should be remembered for them. He did a surprising amount of science fiction, even before Star Trek – Besides Zombies of the Stratosphere (mentioned in the NYT obit), he was in

Them!
The Brain Eaters (an unauthorized ripoff of Heinlein’s The Puppet Masters)
The Twilight Zone
The Outer Limits, in two episodes, including the “I, Robot” episode, based on Eando Binder’s story of that name. Years later, on the New Outer Limits, he appeared in a remake of that episode.

He also appeared in an episode of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. alongside William Shatner, before Star Trek.
He voiced an introduction to the show at the Mugar Omni Theater at the Boston Museum of Science. They’ve since re-written and re-recorded the dialogue around his, but bothy versions basically go:

(Nimoy) “Welcome to the Mugar Omni Theater”
(other voice) “Wow! Leonard Nimoy! How’d they get him?”
(Nimoy) “Because he grew up three blocks from here.”

About 15 years back he helmed Alien Voices Productions with John deLancie, which put on classic-style radio dramas of classic SF stories, including *First Men in the Moon, The Invisible Man, *, and The Lost World. These involved other Star Trek alumni, and were made before studio audiences with live sound effects. They were beautifully done, and many (if not all) were videotaped, as well. The audio editions are on sale, and they’re well worth listening to.

As a lifelong Trekkie, this news makes me very sad. :frowning:

I saw that & just spent the past 10 minutes checking if this was right.
I can’t remember the last time I said “Its gotta be a Hoax” so many times in a row while clicking a mouse. :frowning:

He was inspiring in ways I’m sure he never intended, beyond Roddenbery’s writing. I remember reading gossip articles that it bothered him initially and that he was upset it upstaged his work in Mission Impossible.
(I know now that half those old printed articles about anyone were total BS, but that part seemed like it could have been true)

On an old TV special, I once heard him read ‘THE PURPLE COW’ by: Gelett Burgess. It was actually incredibly funny but in a truly great and inspiring way.

His shoes are just another huge pair, now empty, in a world where the absence of feet big enough to fill them is painfully and keenly felt.

Fucking. Smoking. Dammit.

Gone less than two hours and we already miss you Mr. Nimoy. Thank You… for all of your hard work.

I’m spoilering what I’m going to say next. This is a remembrance and memorial thread and if you don’t want to hear about smoking, please don’t click further.
Thank You.

Look, I have 100 bad habits & I don’t like the weight loss nagging or the exercise nagging or wine with dinner nagging, or half the the rest of the nagging a lot of threads have seemed to be about these days. But I Don’t Smoke.

I can’t help but see his loss as another person of great presence MURDERED by Tobacco. If we loved his work and what he accomplished, it seems almost natural to want to bring his killer to justice. If a person orders dessert, the people at the next table won’t develop tumors and die. If they don’t exercise regularly, their neighbors won’t suddenly develop emphysema. And, as long as you don’t operate machinery, alcohol only affects those who drink it. Smoking does all of those things and It Will Kill You (and some of the people around you too) unless you are very lucky.

We had the Emmys a few months back and we just the other week had the Oscars.
Tell me something Honestly: Just Who would you have The Tobacco Finger Of Death point to that you saw? Who would do you want to be writing remembrance threads about NEXT… all because of Fucking Tobacco? Yes, there were settlements in place… settlements and laws that are quietly being fought and, where possible, rolled back.

I don’t work for John Oliver; I’m sure as hell not making money off of “Jeff the Diseased Lung Cowboy” T-shirts. But if you still draw breath, this is YOUR fight.

You don’t have to like me, who I am, or what I stand for.

You just have to want to Live.

“Tobacco: Let’s End This”

He brought so much into our lives, in more ways that just his iconic role. He will be missed.

Infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

He can now argue again with McCoy in the hereafter while Scotty tries to figure out what the green drink is.

Strikes me that in his earliest bit part roles "Get Smart", "Man from UNCLE" "Sea Hunt" he was often cast as a bad guy. Some of the early Spocks, he is a lot more ruthless in urging Kirk to kill villains.

Nimoy is Spock
Still have Kirk, Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov

I met him once. Nice guy.

I’m bummed.

Shatner and Nimoy first appeared together in a Man From Uncle Episode. Werner Klemperer (Col Klink) is in it too.

Little did they know they’d soon be working side by side for decades.
