Yay! I finally remembered to purchase new ice cube trays!
You see, my old ice cube trays had a few cracks in them, allowing some of the water to leak gently out and achieve glacier-like proportions in my freezer. My freezer isn’t just any old freezer, either. It’s a very old freezer. A freezer that doesn’t have a separate door on the outside of the refrigerator, that’s how old my fridge unit happens to be. Old, I tell you.
Anyhow, now I won’t have to scale a glacier every time I want more ice cubes, and it shouldn’t take me a couple of hours to manually defrost the thing with a hairdryer. The new trays give me bigger ice cubes than my old trays did, too. Ah, the simple pleasures…
Sadly, we almost never have ice. Our freezer is almost always too full for ice cube trays. The only time we have ice is when we’re having people over. Then, for about two to three days after we’ve had company, we have ice, glorious ice. Sometimes, we just take out a couple of cubes and drop them in a glass of water just to hear that seldom heard, yet extremely satisfying ‘plop’.
Sigh. Maybe I can just live vicariously through you. So tell me, what color are your ice cube trays? Where’d you buy them?
I just by the big bags of pre-made ice ‘cubes’ from the supermarket behind my house and put them in the freezer
It is the only feasable option considering the amount of ice I use.
My icemaker works pretty well considering it’s 22 years old. We don’t use enough ice. Every time I turn it off, someone turns it back on. The old ice solidifies into a huge block.
Anybody remember the aluminum ice trays with the handle on top?
Eventually, the handle would distort and expose a sharp edge. You’d slice your hand open, but not notice since the horrific cold had numbed your hand.
The ice cube trays are white, and I bought them at Target.
I have room in my freezer for ice cube trays because you can’t really use this freezer for long term storage - whatever the item, it needs to be used within a week or so.
And my grandma had those aluminum ice cube trays that I could never figure out how to use…
