I need some opinions. I’m getting some more Christmas music this year, and I need a good version of Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!. Wasn’t a fan of the Bing Crosby or Dean Martin versions. I’m leaning towards Lena Horne or Ella Fitzgerald. Anyone else have any suggestions?
ETA: I suppose I should tell you that I’m not a huge fan of big band or jazz music. But I want a light version of this piece-- not rock 'n roll or anything.
Given your stated preferences, I don’t think you’re going to do better than Lena or Ella.
You say you’re not a big fan or jazz, but you want to listen to Ella Fitzgerald or Lena Horne?
A more modern take can be found with Jewel. Michael Buble has done it, but if you didn’t like Bing or Dean-o, I’m doubting you’ll like a guy who sings like a cheap knock-off of them.
Anne Murraydoes a light version with a simple but interesting arrangement.
I have to admit, I’ve always been partial to Gale Storm’s version.
Kylie Minogue? Couldn’t really think of a “lighter” version than that.
When one is tired of Dean Martin, one is tired of life!
The best version I know of was in MAD Magazine, but I don’t know if you can find a recording of it.
First verse, IIRC:
Oh, the weather outside is cruel,
but the truckers won’t bring fuel!
Seems their pension plan they don’t like,
they’re on strike, they’re on strike, they’re on strike!
