now from Lynn in her thread “ok, enough is enough”
now…my question, is do the “RULES” I keep seeing referred to in different threads apply to the moderators and all the members, or just to Contestant #3
CDtexthaven (administrator) says
I see, for C#3 to “curse out”, that is bad, but for the others…no problem?
Go read the “I flame you all” thread (which I personally loved) and I defy you to find ANY purpose to it other than just to “curse out”…
Again I ask …Rules apply to all?
I am waiting.
I have read all of these posts over the past couple of months, but I’ve rarely said anything. Now, I can’t resist applauding you, Kellibelli, for your observation of these glaring inconsistencies. It seems very PC to hate C#3, Arg, those nordic fellows, and a few others, but what would this place be without their notorious posts (whether or not they made sense)? As you’ve so clearly shown, the flames can go pretty high, but it seems that only the un-PC folks get singled out for editing…oops, oh yea, and melin. -But it’s PC to want her back…right?
Can someone show me to the rules page for the people we like and the people we don’t? Maybe a list of names would be good too. That way, we can see if each person is playing by the right set of rules and we can pick the list we want to be on.
I agree wholeheartedly. Drainbead’s wasn’t too terribly bad but the others are absolutely unacceptable especially if you take into consideration what Lynn said. I also believe, if you want the teeming millions to behave, the “leaders” (ie moderators) have to be held to the same rules. In fact, I believe they should be held to a higher standard.
thank you very much…I put a great deal of thought into this matter over the last…well since the whole melin thing, and I like C#3, and all the others, especially the jerks…this is fun!
I hate to see the singling out of C#3 and I always pull for the underdog…could be me next time.
I really hope this sets some of us to thinking…
Anyone else out there?
Hmmm. . . I guess you missed the difference between “vulgarity directed toward someone with the obvious intention of causing anger or embarrassment” and “vulgarity not really directed at anyone and intended to get a laugh out of everyone, including the person to whom it is ostensibly directed.”
Personally, I don’t care whether the moderators allow unlimited profanity and attacks or if they pull the reins way in and say that “damn” is over the line. But please tell me you’re not dense enough to have missed the difference between the “flames” in the “I flame you all!” thread and the attacks in other threads.
No, I get the difference…bucket of shit and C#3…that is directed at someone.
and I dont remember that part of the rulse that I keep seeing quoted that says that funny obscenity is ok, but annoying obcenity is not…who gets to decide what is funny, and what is annoying…You? Me?..Lynn?
Me neither…I love the vulgar stuff, the piont I am trying to make is the inconsistency between the moderators pets, and the others.
of course I can tell the difference, but I will now refer you to tennhippie’s thread:
“offending without profanity”
Now, I might be mistaken here…(I really might) but you all frown upon ‘trolls’ isnt a troll someone who purposely pisses people off for fun? I may have misunderstood the definition…but although I find the above quote to be funny, adam wont.
isnt that what the ‘powers that be’ are shitting all over C#3 for…pissing people off, offending people…
Clear this up for me because I feel like I missed an episode of a soap opera, and I cant catch up.

The explanation is simply this: It is a universally accepted fact that you are free to offend Conservatives and/or Christians and the things they value. Also, you can attack anyone who calls you on it. Few people will, though, so they are easy targets.
Any defense against these attacks will be considered offensive and attacked.
Is that clear? Okay,I’m ready…attack me.
Lynn, of course. She’s the moderator. That’s why she gets paid the big bucks.
Basically.
Maybe not, but I thought it was fairly clear that the post was not intended to piss a particular person off, but instead was intended to poke fun at damn near everybody.
Specific people, yes. Big difference between that and poking fun at everyone, and then having a specific person take offense.
But whatever. I don’t see a double-standard, but then I don’t really care if there is one.
and yes, I know it was a joke, and it was funny, I liked it, I laughed, I made notes to refer to when insulting my ex and his parents…
that was not the point.
censorship and control of words and ideas was the point, and
The content was the point, and the fact that what you, or her, or him, or lynn for that matter finds offensive (from C#3 or others) might make me laugh…and vice versa.
Who gets to decide what has gone too far?
lynn says
The point is that she is only drawing a line where she feels like it, not in the same manner with everyone.
Kelli, I wanted to further your point. Sorry if it was too ambiguous.
Stoidela, Of course the “I flame you all” thread is a joke. It is funny.
The “offend without profanity” may be intended as a joke too, but it IS intended to offend.
The point is…it is okay to offend people under the guise of humor. But, what may be funny to you or to me isn’t going to be well received by others. Therefore, they will be offended.
Therefore, who decides when it’s okay to offend? The moderators? General consensus of the posters? It appears that if it will offend someone who is not well liked, it is good and/or funny. Those people are singled out for ridicule and/or censorship.
CIP: Kellibelli’s maytag man question and the post about C#3. What was that about? I mean what did C#3 have to do with anything…it wasn’t even funny…
That is EXACTLY what I mean…if C#3 did that ( throw a stupid insult out in a GQ thread for no reason) they would delete it or jump all over him.
That is my point in a nutshell…the poster in the maytag man thread thought it was funny, I did not, and GQ is not the place for it anyway…
Is there a moderator/dictator anywhere who can PLEASE explain this to me?
It would appear to us that only the posters you dont like have to follow ANY rules at all.
Each forum is under its own moderator with its own standards. All of the quotes you gave would have been deleted or edited from either the MAILBAG or the COLUMN forum, and probably from GENERAL QUESTIONS and GREAT DEBATES. Lynn has a more delicate balance, she’s dealing with a forum that was set up deliberately to allow insults and flaming.
BTW, kelli, mostly us moderators are human beans. We are not online 24 hours a day. It is unreasonable of you to post this topic, and then comment (an hour later) that you are “still waiting” for a reply. You’ll get your reply, I’m sure, when Lynn signs on and gets around to reading this. Patience, please.
actually I pictured you moderators slumped over the keyboard 24-7, chain smoking and gulping pepsi…
my mistake.
the “still waiting” was for anyone, not just the moderators.
I REALLY hate to leave when it is getting good, but my day is over, I’ll be back at 6:30 am (board time)…
and CDtexthaven…you never mentioned the slam made for no reason in the GQ thread about the maytag man.
