I live to serve!!!
They were great on the Camino during a heat wave (comfortable) and each pair being washed every other day (easy and quick-drying in aforementioned heat wave, or hung in front of a tiny fan overnight.
Agree with the Saxx Kinetic for men. My go-to running undershorts, and my usual regulars.
I have one of their bras too, and the fabric they use for those isn’t the same as what they use for their underwear. The bra fabric feels similar to other bras I have. The underwear feel is really unusual. But I’ve come around to liking them quite a bit (and the gusset in them is mostly cotton, which is good too).
Also, as an aside, I was glad to see they now have a bra for us less well-endowed types. At the time I bought mine, all they had was the Wingwoman style and a couple of sports bras. I got the Wingwoman, and while it fits well, it’s waaay too much bra for me. I only wear it when I want to be sure nothing will move. At. All.
Garden variety white briefs. Boxers don’t give me any support and boxer briefs ride up on me. Plain white briefs keep my stuff where it belongs and the denim off my ass which is what I’m looking for out of a pair of underwear. Affordable and unfashionable, but no one sees them except me and my wife and she doesn’t mind.
I was on the same quest for decades and finally found a few choices similar to these. Looks like there are many more choices in the genre. And cheaper, too - only have three pair now because they were around $20. (I usually pay less than that for a 3-pack of briefs.)
Note that they are labeled “biker shorts” even though reviewers say they’re see-through when worn. And the elastic is encased.
I haven’t bought this brand, but there are several choices labeled as “compression shorts.” I add cotton, because that’s my preference and find 5-15% spandex.
Now that I can afford them, I’m throwing out my briefs.
(Male) My indies of choice for the last 15 years or so have been ExOfficio travel briefs. Uber comfy and long lasting.
But I also want to mention a somewhat unmentionable unmentionable. A few years ago I had prostate surgery. Post-op complications left me with erratic bleeding nethers for a week or so, and I had to wear Depends. Ugly as they are, I expected them to be utilitarian and clunky but no- Those things are comfortable!! I mentioned it to my surgeon afterward, who told me “Everybody says that.”
These are very reasonably priced.
Thank you, that’s good to know.
Title IX is, I’m told, great for sports bras for women who actually workout. Great customer service too.
Mine too when I work out. Things have changed since I ran track, (Jeez, carry the one…) 30 some odd years ago. Things hang now. And chafe. I envy @Jophiel. The Kinetics prevent all that.
45 bucks a pair, but there are sales, and ‘buy once, cry once.’
I’ve discovered an online store called “figleaves” that has a terrific selection of bras. I like it because it’s easy to search, for instance, for a wireless bra of size X. I need a lot of support, and can’t stand underwires, and have had a lot of trouble finding good bras that meet my needs. Figleaves sells several. They aren’t cheap, but to me, it’s been worth it.
She’s used and liked figleaves. Bravissima (sp?), is another site (in the UK) with a decent selection. ‘Curvy Kate’ too.
Since we’ve drifted into bra territory… I only wear strapless bras. I can’t manage straps, even if I’m not chewing gum. The best ones were made by Cacique, a part of Lane Bryant. They stayed UP. I’ve had friends say, “Strapless bras won’t stay up on me!” It’s a matter of design and possibly engineering (cf. Howard Hughes/Jane Russell). The Caciques had wide bands that really gripped your rib cage and (count 'am) FOUR hooks. I’ve got a bunch of them, but I’ve lost weight, had a lumpectomy, and the stretchy fabric has, well, stretched. Then of course (story of my life-- and we’ve had threads on this subject) they stopped making them. You can still get Cacique bras online, but they’re not the same, don’t fit the same, the cups have less fabric (so don’t cover the same), blahblahblah. It’s the old 10 oz. candy bar trick that’s now in the same wrapper, but only 8 oz. and costs twice as much.
Then I found another strapless I loved, the Spanx Bra-cha-cha, but (you guessed it) they stopped making those! There was a brand new one (in my size) on Poshmark and I ordered it but never heard from the seller, so had to cancel. The one I have is well-worn, but it’s perfect for attaching the bluetooth mike that goes with my new fancy-schmancy hearing aids.
The Wacoal Red Carpet strapless bra is not bad, and so far, one can still find them. Okay, since I just wrote that, they’re probably firing everyone as we speak and shutting down the factory.
I notice a couple other posters mentioned TomboyX, and I want to put in another enthusiastic endorsement for them! I tried a pair of the 4.5" trunks, and immediately bought a bunch more. Those things are stupid comfortable! No elastic binding, soft fabric, and they come in a wide range of sizes and patterns. Yes, they’re a bit pricey, but I get frequent sale notifications in email and buy when I find a good one.
After wearing them, I will never go back to normal women’s underwear.
I really like the look of those. Do you buy them directly from the site, and is that where you get the sale notifications?
ETA: Here’s a three-pack on amazon for $45.
I buy them directly from their website. I’m on their mailing list, so I’m always getting sale notifications. I think they post them on the website sometimes too.
I have a tendency to buy Jockey hipsters. The only boyshorts I have are from Ambrielle and honestly I prefer the hipsters.
How about a thong?
HA! Just kidding! I don’t know how anyone can where them or say they’re comfortable.
I wear Fruit of the Loom Breathable Seamless bikinis. They also come in high-cuts or briefs. They are the most comfortable underwear I’ve ever had. No creeping, binding, wedging. Doesn’t even feel like I have them on.
Sounds like you’ve gotten plenty of good suggestions, but let me add one more: shop in the men’s section. I used to wear Hanes cotton boxer briefs, and they were fine; but then I switched to polyester-spandex-lycra (not entirely sure what exactly) boxer briefs, and that’s my preferred style. I like things snug and close-fitting, which the spandex gives me. Boxer-briefs are long enough to grip my thigh and not creep up.
Several months ago, I took a flyer on some Silkworld compression running shorts: https://www.amazon.com/SILKWORLD-Compression-Running-Shorts-Active/dp/B07Q4T3P6H
Work really well as underwear, (although they are long enough to sometimes show under a pair of shorts), and I can strip down to them for a run without frightening the horses.
