Let's cast future Harry Potter films!

I think that Hugh Grant shoud play the PM–he did such a nice job in Love Actually.

What about the girl who played the slutty youngest sister in Pride and Prejudice (the one with Colin Firth)–sorry, I can’t even remember the character’s name at present! (Jane, Elizabeth, Mary and ? and ?). Anyway-her as Tonks.
Judy Dench will be good as Neville’s grandmother.

Any place for Joan Hickson (or is she dead? I love her as Miss Marple).

Maybe Lenny Henry for Shacklebolt? I think he’s the right age.

It was on a celeb gossip community on Live Journal. I can’t remember her name.

Refresh my memory-who is Scrimgeour again? I dunno, I just want to see Sir Ian in at least ONE HP movie. Ditto Liam Neeson (I was thinking he would have made a good Mad Eye).

Bale is a MASTER at immitating accents. He’s been living in California for a while, but he grew up in Britain and was born in Wales. He’d be perfect, I think. As for Jackson, I know he’s not British, but I really hope they’d make an acception just this once.

Catherine Zeta Jones as Tonks? As if! She’s way too old and I just cannot see it. Kate Winslet, I think, or maybe Keira Knightley (did you see her on the Daily Show? Girlfriend was pretty damned funny.)

I always envisioned Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix. For Tonks, the actress who played Scarlett in “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” (yes, I know she’s dead). Maybe they’ll cast Anna Friel since she’s living with David Thewlis?
I completely agree that Ewan McGregor would make a great Weasley!

I’ve never heard of him, so I looked him up to see what he’s been in. His most recent film credit:

I’ve never heard of his other credits.

'Twould be nice if you could find out. I think we’d all be really interested

Scrimgeour is the new Minister for Magic – the politically shrewd ex-Auror with greying tawny hair.

The fans have been voting Friel for some time. I just saw a picture of her for the first time and wow, she does look like how I picture Tonks – somewhat elven. That’s an incredible coincidence.

I think we’re agreed on MacGregor as either Charlie or Bill – now the question is (since there’s only one Ewan), who do we cast him as?

My instinct is Bill. I’ve never pictured Charlie as particularly pretty. Think he and the actress playing Fleur would have a good energy together…?

IIRC, Anna Friel’s said she’d be very happy to play Tonks.
I’d agree with Ewan for Bill; i’m straight, but hell if i’d say no to him! I don’t think he could pass for someone as young as Charlie is, anyway. Not sure if i can picture Ewan with a ponytail, though…

For Bellatrix, how about Kristin Scott Thomas?

Bummer! I wonder if that really counts as having a role because so many people don’t actually see the IMAX verson. It wasn’t him in the regular version, thought.

this source indicates that helen mccrory has been selected to play beatrix lestrange

I think you’re misreading the IMDB credit. He was in the original version - the “The IMAX Experience” credit is a reference to an alternate way the film was titled when it was shown in IMAX theaters.

If people really want Hugh Grant in the movies, I can see him as a Riddle, Sr.

Frankly I think the scene with the Prime Minister will be cut out of the HBP movie.

The important slot to fill is Luna, IMO.

You’re right! I did misread. Just pulled out the DVD and watched…sure enough it is him. I have no idea how I could have missed that it was him.

Ugh, Sam JAckson has been crapping on movies for years. Let’s pray he doesn’t soil HP with his presence.

The man who played the delightfully annoying and slightly greasy Mr. Collins in Pride & Prejudice , David Bamber, should get a part somewhere. Possibly in the Ministry of Magic.

I agree with Eleanor Rigby in having Julia Sawahla ( the slutty Bennett sister band name!) as Tonks.

Julia Sawahla is 37 years old. A bit long in the tooth to play someone in her early 20s.

In all likelihood the best choice, assuming they don’t just cut the character entirely, is someone we’ve not yet heard of, though Keira Knightley does fit the part.

Keira Knightley is too tall and pretty. Tonks needs to be petite–a good character actress would be perfect. I missed Knightley on TDS, but I don’t see her disappearing into the role of Tonks.

I agree that Luna is crucial–whoever they get must be able to say those uncomfortable truths with an air of innocent, but disingenous candour-it that’s possible. A line like,“It’s almost like having friends.” is not the easiest of lines to pull off.

PS-am reading book 6 and just read Luna saying the bit about “should I die my eyebrow yellow as well for the party?”. Classic. And highly comedic. Here’s hoping they outdo themselves in choosing Luna.
I wonder if they’ll cut the whole understory of Lavendar and Ron snogging away etc. If not, Lavendar needs to be cast as well. I hope they keep it in.

I think they’ll keep it in. After all, it seems they really want to play up the romance/sexual tension plotlines. The whole Ron/Hermione plot arc in HBP is way too good to leave out. I just re-read the book and I still got all excited with every polite smile, every pointed little jab, every stab in the back. Lavender should be easy to cast, too. “We need a screaming fangirl who can snog Ron rotten in every scene she’s in…”

every girl in Britain rushes the casting call

But Mr. Frail and I are looking forward to Luna the most.

A few of my female friends went and auditioned for Luna - It was very strange, because on one hand I was hoping they’d get it, and on the other I was hoping they wouldn’t because then I wouldn’t be able to take them seriously in the film! But yes, Luna’s my favourite character, so they’d better cast her well :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d heard the Helen McCrory thing, too, but I didn’t think it was certain yet. I hope not, I don’t think she really looks the part. Hey, if it could be anyone, i’d go with Jennifer Connelly, but it doesn’t look like the no-american rule is going to be broken anytime soon, so i’ll stick with Kristin Scott Thomas.

just reread 4-6. i agree luna is very important. by 6 harry is really enjoying her. the gum disease line… so fantastic. i love the way they go from “what’d she say!!?” what a duff! to just enjoying and accepting her.

neeson would work as scrimgeour, he does have a lion look.

Kenneth Branagh was fine, but Hugh Grant would have been IDEAL as Gilderoy Lockhart, in "Chamber of Secret.:
