Let's cheer up! A Rosenmontag MMP

If you’d ever seen the inside of the house, you’d understand why I don’t want to go into it and can’t wait to get out!

Yay for the happy news, Stauderhorse and Farmer Chick! It’s nice when good things (or good presents) happen to good people.

{{rigs}} Stick to your guns, ladyface, no matter how tough it gets. It’s your money too, so you have as much a say in how it’s spent as he does.

Lunch, if it helps, I’m in awe of your badass safety-pin handling skills and bow down before your mastery of alternative shirt-cuff fasteners. You must teach me.

Good luck with giving up the smokes, Suse. It’s tough, but you’ll feel ever so much better once you kick the habit. What worked for me was identifying the places/activities/things that were my triggers and then making an effort to avoid them for a few weeks until the worst of the cravings had passed… but everyone’s a little different in terms of what works for them.

I made strawberry-rhubarb crisp last night, since I was feeling kinda meh and needed a pick me up (plus there were some strawberries in the fridge that were about 12 hours away from the furry-and-kinda-mushy stage that needed to be used up).

I am now rationalising eating the container of leftover crisp for breakfast, instead of with my lunch. I mean, it’s got fruit and grains, which are proper healthy breakfast things. Right?

I think a lot of people feel like frauds in college. I know I did.

But you are not a fraud. You, in fact, rock.
FarmerChick, my inner 12-year-old is the most jealous inner 12-year-old on the planet.

So for some reason I can now barely hear out of my left ear. It’s as if there’s water in it, but I can’t get the water out. With luck, I will call for an appointment today, and they’ll get me one soon. My guess is fluid retention, since my left ear feels thicker than my right.

:: hugs for rigs ::

Congrats for Stauderhorse! I remember when I received my letter of acceptance from UChicago after being rejected from every other school I applied to - it’s a heady feeling.

Apparently I have to watch rugby with the boyfriend on Saturday. I don’t mind watching sports, but it’s at 2:30am Korean time. Yikes. And we have to watch it at the pub. He’s going to have to carry me home because I’m going to fall asleep before it even starts.

BWAHAHAHA!

Glad I’m not alone.

I decided that I’m going to work on not being passive-aggressive during Lent. So my goal today is to actually say something to the two idiots who are making a big deal of the phone talking instead of just coming here and complaining about them. I’m no better than they are if I don’t just face the problem and calmly tell them to cut it out. And to do the same in similar situations in the future. Whining and griping doesn’t fix the problem. Talking to people just might. So that’s my newly minted Lenten goal. (But to do it kindly, not angrily.)

Won’t the horse reference get confusing since Farmer Chick just got a horse? :stuck_out_tongue:

In any case, a BIG YAY for both Stauderhorse and Farmer Chick!

And a good luck to rigs.

We’re supposed to be getting a big snowstorm here today too. We’ll see if it materializes.

**Rigs **-- this whole thing sounds scary. Not to stick my nose too far in, but it sounds like it’s high time to finalize your separation; at least finance-wise!
{{{}}} and good luck from here on out!

**FarmerChick **-- lovely horse!!

S’OK – there’s no real danger, I’m doing it the **safe **way

Undressing, OTOH, is still a bit of a chore. Mind giving me a hand?

Well, take a look at me trying sometime, and you be the judge!

I will gladly demonstrate my skills on you!

Who’ld’a thought one small off-the-cuff (:D) remark would generate so much… interest… in my dressing and undressing?

I have a feeling that this is part of the plan!

… the redhead’s older’n me… anybody older’n me is ancient by definition…
Gratz on the horse and the probable school admissions
In yet another round of reasonableness, there’s some stuff that we’d been claiming was horribly translated for months. For months we’ve been told to put a sock in it, “it was done by a professional agency!” For months we’ve been giving graphic and excruciating detail of what the agency could do with its diplomas. Last week I was using the English-version screens, Supermegaboss saw them, went  and I showed her some of the most outrageous examples (for example “Checkmark: task can be duplicated” translated instead as “Indicate: unfold double work”). Today we’ve received an Excel to fill in with the stuff we want retranslated and our proposed retranslations… due next Wednesday :stuck_out_tongue:
Lord I’m SO out of here.
Dinner yesterday was great. And I didn’t even break the abstinency, I’m almost proud of me sniff
Did I tell you the Uni I’m applying to says it’s fine to give two professional references? Yay! They answer questions real fast, too.

That right there is some prime Engrish.

Oh, yeah- rigs, I think that was the right decision. And you’re very brave to do it.

Bother. Anyone want to borrow my tired, cranky kid?

Yay for small victories, Nava. Living in Canada means absolutely everything comes with two languages on it, and I get a real giggle out of some of the bad French translations that are out there. It makes Engrish look downright comprehensible. (my favourite is a product called “Light Bug”, which in French has been translated to “Pocket-Sized Light in Bug Shape”)

LiLi, he’s awful cute. If I borrow him, can I just shove a sock in his mouth to shut him up?

Sure! Pop him through the CD drive.

Congrats, on the interview shorse! Hmmm, guess we should change that to gator.

chickie, what a lovely beastie!

Good travelin’ bobbio!

I cannot WAIT for the weekend.

Tupug

G’morning! We’re being lazy–checkout is at eleven and neither of us is feeling like getting on the road bright and early. Besides, the chowder place doesn’t open until eleven anyway and we want to bring home some soup for us and the friends who babysat the aminals… So I’m surfing the Dope and Himself’s catching up on his RSS feeds on his phone. We’re such geeks!

Waves frantically @ FarmerChick Hi!! Happy Birthday! Surprised you haven’t stumbled in here before this… I turned 50 on Sunday too, and we’re out on the coast celebrating. That is a very pretty horse, she has lovely action and I love her sturdiness–you say she’s a “Draft Paint?” Is that like a cross between a big horse and a patchy horse? :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve often thought that the perfect horse for me would be a cross between a Shire or Clydesdale and an Arabian, especially if it inherited the feathers. I think you’re going to have lots of fun with Willow… Also, for a nickname (assuming you hang around) I’d suggest “TurkeyWrangler” but it’s a bit long… FarmerChick has some hysterical YouTube video of her crazy ass turkeys following her around and having a lively conversation…

Gratz to Stauderhorse!

Good move, Rigs, sounds like TH is definitely off in WooHooLand and not listening to reason. WTF was he planning on doing with that other half that he now “can’t purchase this property because of what [you] did?” That sounds pretty scary, and that whole “well, now I’m going to go limp and MAKE you tell me what to do” trip is totally weird. It would sure be cool if he decided to go buy a clapped out house several hours travel away from you, though. Solve all sorts of problems, that…

Yawn Well, I suppose a shower is in order… cya!

Yay! Snow! About three inches at my house when I left, and it’s still coming down like a mf’er. Me like.

Appropriate hugs, yays, boos all around.

Ooofffff! Just finally packed a tired, grumpy, pukey, sore-throated kid off to bed. I got home at 4:50pm (after spending 45 minutes in traffic) to find HRH asleep on her Daddy’s lap, and piles of vomit all over her bedroom floor, plus vomit-covered clothes in the bathroom. The last few days, HRH has been waking up at 5am and not sleeping in the afternoon, plus she apparently has a sore throat and an ear infection, so she got all het up when hubby tried to change her nappy this afternoon, screaming for Mummy, then started coughing, which led to puking up all her lunch and then some (side note: regurgitated rice and vegetables is not fun to clean out of carpet). Hubby somehow managed to get her in the bath, washed up, out of the bath, dressed and sucking down a little bit of milk before she passed out from (I imagine) exhaustion.

Anyhoo, we woke HRH up after 30 minutes (so she would sleep tonight) and she just bawled for about 15 minutes and refused to even drink water. We got her dressed and went out in the car for a 10 minute drive to calm her down, but when we got home and tried to get her to drink some water and eat something, she puked all over (me) again. We then got HRH changed and piled into the car to take HRH to the clinic (side note: me still in my vomit-covered yoga pants and grotty t-shirt). Doctor says she has a low-grade fever and the aforementioned ear and throat infections. I asked the doctor to make sure any prescriptions were for suppositories, given her issues with swallowing medicine (and the sore throat), but he just half-sneered at me and told me the suppositories wouldn’t be effective enough. Guess what, as soon as we got home and gave her the oral anti-vomit medicine, she vomited (at least the baby paracetamol was a suppository)! So, tell me again how effective an oral suspension is when it won’t stay in her system long enough to be absorbed!??? Anyway, we got her to eat a small cheese sandwich and drink a bottle of milk. She is finally asleep and hopefully will sleep well.

Sigh, why do I have a feeling that this will be a sucky, pointless, non-resting type weekend? :frowning:

{{{Dotty & HRH}}}

It’s snowing about as much here, too, snowbunny! My manager and I went out to lunch and it was still dry. By the time we came back - and it wasn’t a long lunch - it was snowing like crazy, the roads were covered, the car was covered, and visibility was awful. Crazy! But good crazy.

The lack of motivation abated a little this morning but is back full-force now. Yippee.

It seems to have let up for the moment, but we’re supposed to get more later and through tomorrow. As long as we don’t get two feet overnight I’ll be happy.

I’m alive, but not by much. I was asleep before 8 last night and made it to 4AM before waking, and I didn’t feel too horrible. But all day, the coughing got worse and worse and now I’ve got what could be a sexy, husky voice, 'cept my throat hurts like crazy!! And my nose is snuffly. And I’ve got a headache. And I just feel like yuck. I’m thinking I won’t be going to work tomorrow.

And not only did my day start with dog pee on the dining room carpet, but I came home to another pee puddle beside where the other was. Thank goodness for my carpet cleaner. But Scruffy is on The List. Stoopit dog. And Ziva is a lump. She spends all day sleeping on the love seat in the living room or on the top of the critter tower. First thing in the morning, she’ll visit our bedroom, but she won’t hang with us when we’re watching TV in the family room. She’s a rather anti-social, independent little snot!

Welcome to our new Mumpers, and huzzahs all around! S-horse, good luck in Gainesville! **Chickie **- yay for the horse!

I’ve got a ring of Polish sausage boiling for supper, and we’ll have salad and other stuff. And carrot cake. I’d rather have a big bowl of soup, but I don’t have the energy for soup cooking.

**doggio **- glad the package got there safely! I’m still waiting to hear from a few others - I’d hate to think of my works of art getting lost in the mail.

Gratz indeed to you, Stauderhorse! I felt the same way when I got accepted into my first-choice four-year college, since their engineering program is pretty exclusive.

I didn’t end up going; it was too far away, so I went for my second-choice school instead. But it was still a great feeling to get that letter!

whiterabbit, taxi, I am jealous - I love love LOVE snow but we haven’t gotten much at all this year. Curse you, nonsensical Maryland weather! Why must you be so cold, and yet so dry!?!

And on the subject of the House at Grr Corner… As of Tuesday, 8:28 PM, I am out of there like you wouldn’t believe. I had back-to-back Dynamics and Calc III exams that night, and man, the sense of relief as I handed in the second test was GLORIOUS. I am now dedicating the remainder of this week to doing nothing, as I seem to have used up a week’s worth of motivation in the three days prior to the aforementioned exams. And as if getting those tests out of the way wasnt enough, I have almost no homework this week; since I’m taking 17 credits this semester, that’s pretty much unheard of. Joy and rapture abound, hehe.

Oh, and I’m going home this weekend, which means I’ll get to see my most-awesome little brother, and all my friends back home. On top of that, the girl I like, and who likes me back, is going to do a couple piercings for me. I’ve never had any body art done before - no tattoos and no earrings or anything - so I’m nervous, but excited.

All in all, then, a pretty good week.

Edit: Also my first MMP post. Figured I may as well jump on the bandwagon while the jumping was good.

What’s all that racket up there??? Ah, ha, another newb! Okay chocolates to fcm, and beer and cockies to swampy. You know the drill.
