Let's cheer up! A Rosenmontag MMP

Hi
still grumpy, but also right now slightly amused
I have gotten into the habit of, whenever possible/practical, stacking two chairs for the added height. I’ve been doing this at rehearsals and conventions for several years now. I always make sure that the legs of the upper chair are completely lined up with the bottom chair. If they aren’t, I stack two other chairs. I sit down gently and remain basically still. This has served me well. My legs are at a good angle, and I can easily stand up with little or no assistance.
Tonight, I sat on my stacked chairs while we went over some choreography and posture positioning. I was quite animated, shifting my weight slightly side to side and front to back in accordance with the planned moves. The top chair shifted, teetered, and slid to the side, sending me down to the floor in slow motion. I landed gently on the floor looking bewildered as everyone else panicked on my behalf.
Since I cannot roll onto my knees in order to stand, i figured the best thing to do was to butt-walk back to the wall, put a chair behind me and one on either side, and i would hoist myself up using my arm and upper back. This did not work. Fortunately, there were a few strong gents elsewhere in the building who came to my aid, and with their help, I managed to get up and onto a chair. The rest of the night, everyone kept coming over to make sure I was okay. “nothing’s broken?” “are you bleeding?” I’m fine -a little muscle pull in my neck, but nothing else. It was highly amusing and I’m just glad no one videoed it or I’d be on YouTube for sure.
With that, I again apologize for not even attempting to catch up, and I am off to sleep

HRH now (for the last 8 hours) has a fever of 38.6C/101.5F, despite two doses of paracetamol. We are just leaving to go to the hospital.

Awww, poor HRH! beams “get betterer” rays in Dotty’s general direction

The animals were so glad to see us, all went well, travel home uneventful, I’m sleepy and just posted about a kajillion pics to my Facebook page. Here’s a link, in case anyone’s interested.

Nigh-nigh!

Back from the hospital - ibuprofen and and anti-emetic have the fever and vomiting in check. HRH has eaten some plain tuna and some rice crackers, and seems to be okay. Watch this space …

Yay! It’s Firday at last, and payday too. What more could I want?

This weekend I’m off down to London with friends for a girle weekend which promises to be fun. Theatre in the afternoon and a meal later at a Moroccan restaurant with belly dancing too.

'im indoors will be staying at home looking after the cats and doing the usual bit of gnome-firtling. I had The Talk with him last night, went quite well but we will have to see whether anything really changes.

Next week the builder will be coming round to talk about the work on the house and hopefully giving us a start date to aim for.

Morning all; up and caffeinating and yes indeed, so glad that it’s FIRDAY!

Aww, sending healing thoughts to HRH–fevers are scary, Dotty; glad you took her to hospital. Glad to hear that MrRebo is home, safe and sound. And I love Rebo and think it’s cool that you’re actually using it IRL now. LOL Yes, I’m not well.

Time to get ready to leave for work…back later. Oh, Rosie, sending good thoughts your way too - poor baby!

YOT

Yesterday one of the people at the client gave me a go-away present: the first two seasons of The IT World. I just can’t, for the life of me, imagine why a guy who quotes Star Wars and Star Trek, whose friends are trying to drag him into Azeroth, who loaned Firefly and Serenity to The Hordie, who works in IT, and whose houseguests wear Girl Genius pins could think I’ll enjoy a series about two IT guys and their brand-new boss who doesn’t know desktop computers won’t work until they’re plugged in to the mains. Specially given that the opening shot is of one of the IT guys wearing an RTFM tee.

I wants me that tee

HRH: get better, young lady, that’s an order!

I hadn’t read this whole thread when I posted yesterday, I just finished it now, so forgive me if I totally screw this up. I don’t know most of you, but I would like to get to know you all better!

Silver Tyger Girl - very cool kimono.

Dolores Reborn - My condolences to Mr Rebo.

SpazCat - Good luck on the rewrite, I love Hank Hill!

Suse - I had never heard of *Straight No Chaser * before, but I love them! A good acappella group gets me every time.

IvoryTowerDenizen - Good luck to your friend.

Taxi78cab - Dare I ask you about Kix Condoms?

Nava - Good luck on the uni app.

The Blue-Sighted Shadow - Very cool scarf!

WooHOO! The horse transport just called, they will be here in 45 minutes!! They are a day late because of the winter storm in BC, but Willow will be here soon finally!

I am only on page 3 and will continue reading this later.

So my Costco shopping is already paying off. I usually have a long list and today all I have on the weekly food list are lots of veggies, milk, eggs, salsa and pet food. As a side benefit I had to clean out all of my cupboards and rearrange them to fit it all in and I got rid off all sorts of junk that I forgot that I had and found a few things that I thought were lost.

Now I’m trying to caffeinate enough to get ready to go into town to see my psychologist. He’s so much fun that I look forward to it. I’m doing fine these days and I don’t really need to see him, so we talk about books and tell each other funny mania stories for an hour. Since my insurance will only pay for med management with a psychiatrist most insist that you see a psychologist too and mine is so smart and funny that I really like him.

ScareyFairie, what is “gnome flirting”?

<hand shoots up ala Hermione Granger> I know! I know!

It’s WOSW, aka World of Sodding Warcraft, the sexual/aggression sublimation game for everyone!

Off to work soon. Am tired. Need more sleep–tomorrow is Saturday. Yay.

As rigs said, it’s World of Soddin’ Warcraft, which he plays far too much of. One of his characters is a gnome called Stumpovsky, and I have often grumbled that he spends more time with the gnome than he does with me. Not that I’m bitter or anything…

It’s Friday! Thank all the listening deities!

And Nat slept till after eight!

Also it’s warm outside, so I’ve got lots of windows open!

Yay! Exclamation points!
Glad HRH is a bit better.
Sorry for GRRs.

Welcome newbies.
Is it bad that Nat is currently playing with his toothbrush and a lot of cheerios? We’re chilling until my babywatcher (Grandma) gets here so I can vacuum and mop. I am making little plastic suits for the cats, with helmets. I’ll vacuum out the suits once a week. It’ll be easier.

Good morning!

Just got through with an awesome brekkie of leftover poke chops, hash browns, a fried egg and rye toast. Mr Rebo’s request.

TGIF, indeed. I have no plans that I know of - except to pick up a gallon of milk.

It’s warm and hoomid, with a cool front blowing in tonight.

Have fabulous day, y’all!

Blurf.

It’s wet and grey outside. Very wet. Very grey. I’m not in a particularly good mood today either… I’m having trouble keeping the lid on Sleepy, Cranky, Mopey, Angsty, Snarky, Destructive and Meh (the Seven Dwarves of Depression). Stupid February always goes and does this to me, and even though I know it’s all my brain playing tricks on me, it’s harder to convince myself of that some days.

{{rosie}}

swampus, it was either that or Patron Saint of Toilet Paper Stashes, but I opted for TMI in the end.

Speaking of World of Soddin’ Warcraft, I oughta see if the Angry Russian and Her Boy are still interested in coming over for drinks tonight (I know… seems random, except that they’re both complete WOW addicts - hence the connection in my brain). After the week I’ve had, I’m in dire need of booze and a vent session, but I can’t really do either on my own.

I agree with spaz, taters should be O.T. but the beauty of the MMP is you can have as many nicks as mumpers want to give you.

Oh, and goddess, I will probably shorten you to jess cause it suits I think.

boofae, I envy you your girly getaway to London. I am daydreaming about a holiday to London and Paris in about three years. Sure hope the economy is better enough for that.

gt, I don’t think there’s anything more stressful than drama at work. I feels for ya.

{{{{Dotty and HRH}}}}

Hang in there, rigs. There is light at the end of the tunnel. The Klingon went off the deep end when we split, too. There’s just no reasoning with them. Do what you must.

li-li, nah, it’s okay. Just be carful he’s not mashing those cheerios into any rugs. They are like concrete. Oh, and wouldn’t it be easier just to give the cats Nair baths?

Alright then, appropriate comments to everyone else.

This day cannot go fast enough.

Tupug

I’m awake and I’m alive, producing copious amounts of snot. While I didn’t exactly sleep in, (since Scruffy was barking at 6:30 to be taken out) after I tended to the dogs and scooped the cat box, I went back to bed. I was going to watch TV, but I managed to fall back to sleep for 2 more hours. So yay!

FCD has gone down to the marina to “measure stuff” - I have no idea… But he’s taking advantage of the few non-rainy hours today will offer. Daughter is at work, SIL will go to class, then to work, leaving in an hour or so. I’m having a soda, but I’m thinking hot cocoa or some broth might be nice. My plans for today include much knitting and filling a trash can with tissues. ick.

**Rebo **- you can’t change your name, because they we’d have to find you a new nickname, and that’s tough with the short names. I have spoken. Dem’s da breaks… :stuck_out_tongue:

gt, you’re to be congratulated for roping in so many new Mumpers. Gold star for you!! [sub]*[/sub]

I’m pretty sure there was more I wanted to say, but it’s too much like work at the moment to scroll back and figure it out. Just know that I love you all and hope all your physical and social ills heal… Gee, that didn’t sound as sincere as it should have. Must be all that snot backing up into my sensitivity center.

Last week, **swampy **taught us a new game: take a company name, add “condoms” to it and then say their tag line as if they’re advertising condoms. So as **rigs **mentioned, Nike Condoms slogan would be “Just Do It.” Or McDonald’s Condoms would be “I’m Lovin’ It.” And… Kix Condoms become “Kid Tested, Mother Approved.”

Do they all live in the House at Grrrr Corner? (I think I’m going to have to work the seven Dwarves of Depression into a conversation sometime. Much better than the original dwarves!)

Yay, **Moonie **for tests being done (for now). KT (my husband) and I both survived engineering school so we can empathize. Somehow it retrospect, we seem to remember all the good parts and not so much of the stress, exams, homework, etc.

gt, you were in a dream I had the other night, but now I can’t remember anything about it other than that I woke up and said, “Hmm… I’ll have to let gt know that she was in my dream.”

The driveway/parking lot at our townhouse community wasn’t plowed out At All when we got home last night. Fortunately, our little front-wheel-drive cars got through it ok, but we saw someone with an SUV/Jeep-like thing (that I’m guessing was not 4-wheel drive) get stuck for probably 45 minutes. We should have gone out to help, but we were in the middle of making dinner. So we just watched the drama instead. It did not go well for him at all. Rear wheel drive sucks in snow. They finally came to plow out just before 7. Which doesn’t help when most people get home from work before that. I’m guessing the president of the homeowners’ association got a lot of calls last night.

I really want some more caffeine this morning, but we have BAD coffee at work and really not very good tea. Maybe I’ll have to go with a diet Coke. Not really my morning drink of choice, but I need some go juice.

My partner (henceforth to be known as Joe since it’s shorter) is addicted to auto racing games and holes up in his den every night to play for hours. I don’t really mind because he’ll always take a break to talk to me when I want to. He works hard, needs the relaxation and after 15 years it isn’t like we have mountains of pressing things to talk about every day. We’ve both always been able to entertain ourselves alone and that’s a big part of why we get along so well. My friends don’t understand why I don’t mind. I guess I just don’t want a whole lot of attention all the time. Maybe it has more to do with what they aren’t getting done while they play video games, because I’d be really annoyed if he was spacing out on obligations because of it.

taxi, they live in a little cottage in Grrr Forest. The denizens of Grrrr Corner kicked them out because Destructive threatened to rip the stuffing out of Piglet for being too cheerful in the mornings.

Glad you’re somewhat better, FCM. sends chicken soup love offerings

I think the guy I’m dealing with from our vendor lives at Passive Agressive Corner. I asked him to provide me with a breakdown of a specific system function, and he sent me the 700 page system admin manual instead. Which is great… except there’s nothing in those 700 pages that answers my question succinctly. I’m somewhat amused though, because I’ve never literally been told to RTFM before now (complete with TFM).

Aha, so THAT is the mysterious “Kix Condoms” comment! snickers Hehe, I loves me some juvenile humor in the mornin’.

There’s another game I’ve played that falls into a similar vein; I dunno if you’ve ever heard of it but my friends and I still occasionally amuse ourselves with it. Take the name of a car. Add the word “anal” to the beginning. Hilarity ensues. Examples:

  • Ford Explorer —> Anal Explorer
  • Dodge Ram ------> Anal Ram
  • Ford Probe ------> Anal Probe

giggles girlishly God I feel like I’m 12 again…

Heh… So did my dad (Mech E), mom (Chem E), grandfather (Mech E), one uncle (Civ E), another uncle (Aerospace E), and a third uncle (Computer E). I love my family to bits but man, they really pile on the pressure >.< Ah well. [Gloria Gaynor] I will survive! [/Gloria Gaynor]

I have no idea why I know that it was Gloria Gaynor who did that song. I’m 21 and only got into music in the last few years and I listen to rock, metal, industrial, and techno anyway… Huh. I wonder what useful piece of information I got rid of to make room for that bit of trivia.

Meh, I’m in my Multicultural America class and just got owned by a pop quiz… That’s what I get for having a girl over instead of doing the reading. Second time this week that’s happened (well, except for the girl part) - I skipped Thermodynamics on Tuesday to study more for Dynamics (along with like 30 other people - there’s a lot of overlap between the classes) and naturally that was the day the professor had planned a pop quiz. bleepity bleeping Steam Tables.

Ack, no, no, NO! Bad Moonie, no Grr Corner for you! whacks self on the nose

As soon as this class lets out I have to go to Physics lecture. Uniform electric fields ftw. Then at noon, the weekly Pagan Student Union meeting, which will occupy me until Dynamics discussion at 3:00. I’m not actually Pagan, I’m an atheist, but I like a lot of the people in the PSU as they are, by and large, the furries/otakus/gamers/nerds/etc that I’d hang out with anyway, so yeah, it’s fun. Once Dynamics is over, I gotta pack up my crap so’s I can head home for the weekend… Word of warning, stay off 95 north between Exit 47 at Baltimore and Exit 77 near Bel Air and Edgewood in MD this evening, I only got three hours of sleep last night and I know my driving’s gonna suffer for it.

Class over in 10… 9… 8…
