Let's cheer up! A Rosenmontag MMP

Sorry to bring some bad news to a an much-needed upbeat MMP, but friend is going in for a mastectomy next week. They will check her lymph nodes then and start her on chemo. I don’t know what stage her cancer is, so I remain hopeful it is early. We’re all covering her classes for her…

On a happier side, in a few weeks I start a stained-glass window making class. I can’t wait!

I shall remain un-Shroved today. I’m also not getting pancakes since Complicated Roommate wanted to go to Great Mexican Place last night. I put a pot of stew on and let everything boil down–tonight I add herbs and dumplings and call it dinner. Tomorrow I’ll have pancakes.

I have the worst case of ear worm imaginable. (Stop reading now if you’re easily susceptible.) My partner’s alarm went off at 4:30 and normally I go back to sleep for a while but this morning the rain was dripping out of the gutters in such a rhythmic pattern that it got stuck in my head. It was timed perfectly to go along with “the ants go marching 1 by 1, hurrah, hurrah”. After about 10 minutes of trying to ignore it I got up because it was driving me crazy. Now it’s an hour later and I’m still marching down into the ground to get out of the rain in my head.

I wish he would hurry up and leave so that I can play something I like over and over and get that stuck in my head instead.

I’m extremely sensitive to earworms, but I’ve got my own at the moment. My own words to the Katy Perry Hot and Cold song. I sing it to my cat Bertram and can’t stop singing it. Aiiee!

Urgh. Another totally horrible night. Very tired Shrove Tuesday here. I think I’m going to get hold of my mother and see if we can go to their place until after lunch, or out mall-walking, or something. So I don’t spend today watching Buffy with Nat. Again.

Suse, this is pretty good for Lent recipes. And this. I hate fish, so our options are limited by that. Good thing we’re not Orthodox- no dairy or oil, either.

Oh, and I’m listening to Under Your Spell and Walk Through The Fire in my head right now. Over and over and over and over…

Blurf.

I dragged my butt to the office early this morning, only to discover that my conference call has been rescheduled to this afternoon. Gee, thanks for the advance notification, guys… I so badly wanted to sleep in this morning, too.

On the bright side, on the way home last night I discovered that the supermarket had a veritable plethora of paczki flavours for sale! I giggled like a little girl, snatched a box, and skipped all the way home. I just finished woofing one down for brekkie, in fact.

(I wish they sold them as singles rather than in half-dozens, though, because now I’m going to have to eat them all)

js, I have the same problem with any Katy Perry song. Oh, and this ditty by Robyn will follow me around for days. Days, I tell you.

{{Soapy and SoapyFriend}} Doctors tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to recommending mastectomies if there’s the slightest possibility that the cancer is not contained enough to be removed through lumpectomy alone… it’s scary, but it’s not necessarily as bad as it may seem - there are more and more survivors every day. Here’s hoping that her treatment goes well… she’s lucky to have such wonderful support.

Hehehe! That’s why I only mentioned it here and not to anyone in real life! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope things are going better for your daughter and her boyfriend, Suse.

KT and I saved the chicken jalfrezi last night. If anyone else makes the recipe, follow the recipe and don’t put the coriander and cumin in until the end. I thought it would give the flavors a chance to blend better if I put them in while the chicken was cooking, but that seemed to be a bad idea. I did add in some dessicated coconut, some cilantro, and a little cream, and KT added more ground coriander and cumin that were fresh. And it tasted really good. Whew! Especially with company. And especially with company who’s heard that we’re really good cooks. Not the time you want to fall flat on your face.

Oh and KT decided that he DOES like the chocolate cake that didn’t really turn out right over the weekend. It seems to be just a matter of perceptions. Since he’s now not expecting cake, it tastes good. It didn’t taste good when he was expecting cake. I guess. But in any case he had two pieces last night. So I guess that wasn’t a cooking disaster.

I don’t really want to do work today. Could someone come over and do my work for me?

Sure thing. Come over and do mine and it’ll be a fair trade!

Well, I’m up. It’s amazing. I haven’t decided whether or not I’m wearing kimono today. I remembered this morning I have strawberries! I wonder if they’re moldy? Nope. Yum.

Well, if I want to have enough time I gotta keep moving.

Oh, I forgot it was Shrove Tuesday. Scottish Darling and I used to stuff ourselves with pancakes covered in powdered sugar. :: sniffle ::

:: hugs for Prof. Rapunzel and friend :: It’s always scary when something like that happens to a friend; you and she are in my thoughts.

Have gotten no work done today. Big surprise!

Someone sent me this link to a story about a guy who got killed when his office chair exploded. I don’t know if it’s true, but I’m going to stand up all day at work just in case!

Eee! In kimono! With the new way of tying the obi I learned (bunko musubi if you want to google it). I’m not wearing Japanese sandals, since I have to do a significant amount of walking. I’m trying to decide whether or not I’m going to wear tabi.

I’ll have somebody take pictures.

I’z tahrd today. Stayed up to watch Heros and now I need some puppy uppers.

soapy, good vibes headed to soapy friend.

I had some faux pancakes in the breakroom this morning that somebody had left for any takers. The were more like donut holes. But the kicker was the syrup which I think was Karo syrup. :stuck_out_tongue: Blasphemy!

Can I give up work for lent?

Tupug

Blargh.

I need a kick in the pants. Today is dragging on and on and on and on.

And if that wasn’t fun enough, I get to go to the dentist right after work. Oh joy, oh bliss.

Howdy all. Almost bath and bedtime for me. Just watched the season opener for Lost and have now cancelled any Tuesday night plans for the foreseeable future!

Ducks have been deployed. We’ll see where the shit sticks.

Ooh, drama! I lurves me some drama! Keep us posted, Soapy. And good vibes being sent to your friend.

Puggy, puppy uppers made me <snerk> right out loud!

Muppet, I have to go to the dentist in about three hours. I took a half day off. I intended to go pot some plants, but yet here I sit, as usual.

Nobody told me how addictive this place was when I signed up about 8600 posts ago…

I remembered to take the bacon out of the freezer. I think this qualifies as a miracle.

Fasting and church tomorrow, and Mass again either Thursday or Friday. Mr. Lissar is giving up Coke (migraines! Migraines all round! :D), and has taken up Liturgy of the Hours. Tomorrow Driving Husband will point out that Mennonites are much better than Anglicans, Catholics, and Lutherans, and therefore don’t need to fast, give up stuff, or actually go to church much. In response I will not bake him cake all Lent. Hah.

I’m missing y’all. Busy week. The Hordie says he’d like to take over my lease, but he wants to speak with the owner about putting a showerhead in (right now there’s a tub but no shower). Sent in the first batch of paperwork for my uni application. The two “academic references” are both professional, I’m asking whether this is OK for people who’ve been out of school for over ten years (seriously… several of my favourite professors are retired or buried!). I do hope they accept “notarized copies” for my transcripts, because there is no way I can get university-printed copies of the US ones in a reasonable amount of time and I don’t want to part with the ones I have. I’s nervous. I’s also trying to give up cussing for Lent.

Tomorrow a bunch of people from the client are taking me out for lunch. Then we’re having dinner at Mathgirl’s and No-Marriage-Girl’s house. So all I have to cook all day is breakfast. I’ll be bringing some of my food to dinner (asparagus and patés, including some which are fish). Yes, I know it’s Ash Wednesday… I didn’t want to turn people down blush

Suse, I think the Mumpers Blog has a couple of recipes of mine which don’t carry meat (omelettes and fish and some salads). Things like fish risotto work too.
